I posted a separate thread but thought I’d ask you knowledgable folk

My Leaf is due back early May but I want to send it back one month before to avoid warranty expiry, service/MOT shenanigans etc

Early this year it started making a mechanical buzzing noise from the charger port on lock/unlock, all working fine but a bit of a loud noise. Took it to Nissan in Feb who were useless but after a few workshop trips it needs a part which is on 6-8 week backorder

So, a dilemma. Do I tell the lease co and get ahead of them potentially saying I have to pay to fix it? Or just ignore it-it’s just a funny noise, everything works

I would just return the car as it is at a date that suits you before the warranty etc expires. Even if you wanted to have the faulty part replaced it's probably not going to be available by the time the lease is up.

I'm coming to the end of my third lease now and it's time to just buy something rather than get into another lease. The costs are so high they're just a bad idea if you want something half decent.

Sadly the halcyon days of decent motors for £250 per month are long gone in my opinion.

I still think there are some great deals out there at the right time. Month end in March and Sept. Year end also.

I do like having an under warranty white goods hack on the drive. Turnkey zero thought kind of motoring.

Oh joy, same guy from BCA that collected my immaculate M2 from a couple of years ago is picking up the 3yr family Skoda…can’t wait to see how much he finds, hoping his eyesight has declined in the last couple of years as he picked out every single one of the 5 stone chips on the M2!

Tip for anyone below their mileage limit...

I have 1 year left on a 3 year deal.

Contacted them (Zen Auto) for a price for a one year extension, but also a price to keep the original 3 years and reduce the total mileage by 1/3 (my car was off the road for a very large part of year 1 awaiting parts under warranty so I did a year of mileage in courtesy cars).

1 year extension was not too bad, but not a bargain so didn't do it.

Reducing mileage on the existing term is going to save me £80/month for the final year!

So worth asking the question of the provider if they will reduce your payments if your mileage is going to be significantly under!

I'm sure I read on a post on here a few weeks back that not many places offer GAP insurance anymore/it's not really a thing like it was a few years ago?

Is this the case? I've just had a quote for some through ALA - I'm paying £3k downpayment on a lease which arrives this week, and it's an Audi who will definitely not sell for anything like its £52k RRP so I do see where there could be issues if something were to happen.

I'm happy to pay the ALA price but I remember reading something on here which has given me some doubts.

I dont know in the first year of lockdown I got a distress lease Abarth 595 Competizione for 15k miles a year for 220 a month.

I've just picked up a Nissan Qashqai (ok not exciting) but a pre reg on 10k miles a year for 220 a month.

I think that's a good deal.

It's about as good as it gets if you don't mind what you end up driving. I ended up in a 2021 Hyundai Tucson for my last lease, good car, well specced, utterly reliable but it's just dull and made me miss having a car that was fun to drive. I can't find anything on a lease for sensible money that fits the bill sadly.

Gap is considered poor value by the FCA who have asked providers to generally withdraw the product unless they can demonstrate value. ALA are apparently okay to continue selling beyond the cut off date.

The investigation and withdrawal has been triggered by the level of commission offered to resellers such as dealers appearing excessive.

Its good value when you pay a reasonable price and not the over-hiked dealer add on prices. Hopefully FCA will see sense and allow it to continue to be sold by the specialists.
