Maybe they just didn't want to venture out to NW2...

I tried to sell them an 08 plate Golf GTI a couple of years back, they bid £5k online then, in-person, a spotty little joker in a cheap suit invented a whole load of nonsense about the condition of the car and offered me £3500. Compete waste of my time. Sold it privately for £5K a couple of weeks later.

My advice, based on my experience - don't waste your time with these people. They prey on the lazy and/or desperate.
If you sold it for £5K private, then £3.5K trade price sounds about right. I doubt you were describing the car correctly in the first place if they were offering private sale money and then able to find £1,500's worth of reasons to drop the price.

Or were you really expecting them to give you retail money?

When i dealt with them, i filled out the questionnaire very accurately, marked up every detail they asked, then on the day the guy went round the car, and checked everything. They found some kerbing on the alloys (i'd deliberately not marked that as i expected them to chip me back so thought i'd give them an obvious one) and then they also noted my definition of "full service history" didnt align to the manufacturers requirements so they changed it to "part". That knocked the price back £250 overall.

The car wasnt perfect and TBH i'd rather not have sold it to a private buyer, so i was happy enough.

It was a 2007 Clio 197 and with the £3,000 they gave me for it it bought me a 2007 C350 coupe Mercedes, so all in all i was well pleased.

just to give a bit of balance - I sold them an '05 R32 for 11k back in 2014, after receiving a quote of 10.5k online

Did you list all the faults or damage to your car after the initial valuation? I have used them myself and found they give you a value based on make and model and mileage say £5k but then there is an option to list further damage such as scratches, stone chips, wheel kerbing etc and after you do all that they give you a reduced value.

I'm not saying you didn't do that but a lot of people don't then turn up at the premises as the employee goes around listing it all and people then say they are getting ripped off by lower values.

I don't work for them but I've sold a car there so seen how it works first hand, I got what I was offered online as their guy said I'd been accurate listing damage etc.

I was scrupulously accurate. They knew what they were doing. And it ended up fine, as I sold privately for the right number. Just wish I'd known about their modus operandi in advance, would have avoided wasting time with them.

So what did they find that you didnt? Presumably they followed their own processes and evaluated the car?

Seems very odd they were offering private buyer retail money given they're a trade buyer?

I've sold a car to wbac. One issue with the online system is the difficulty with describing your car accurately. Our car that we sold was a fiat 500 that I thought was pretty much cosmetically perfect. What I didnt know was that they adjust the value based on how many paint chips they can feel. Now this was an 8 year old car so it did probably have some.

They knocked quite a bit off, I then negotiated it back up a bit having worked out what I was prepared to accept based on sold prices on eBay etc and took the money.

The fact is that you have to be prepared for them to make a bit of a profit. In fact there then probably still needs to be a little more profit for the person that buys it from them as most of the cars they buy go at auction perhaps to other dealers.

So yes it is for the lazy, they even pretty much say as much in their advertising. But if like me you have a busy job, two kids and zero spare time they can be a reasonable option.

So i had my WBAC appointment today for my 2013 M135, i had an online valuation at 13k,

I got there and the guy was really nice/friendly, had a good chat with him, He really struggled to find anything wrong with the car, nothing apart from a few stone chips on the bumper. Anyway, ended up with an offer of £12966 and it was a done deal.

Used WBAC to value Mrs PD's old car and used that as a bargaining tool to PX on her new car. Worked a treat and got a valuation and part ex we were happy with.

Same when I sold my mustang. More than happy with the process and they offered a couple of £k more than any of the other garages I contacted. Incredibly painless

That's some good feedback.

My friend sold them his R32 and they only chipped him £50

The WBAC valuation on my 340i has gone up in the last week or so from £21k to £22130

Seems to be a shortage of stock according to my local specialist dealer who offered to buy outright at £23750

I have someone from "We Want Any Car" tomorrow morning coming to my house to look at my 61 plate Volvo V60, they have valued it online at £5780 but even I don't think that's realistic given kerbing on all four wheels, a small scratch on the rear nearside corner of the bumper and some wear to the drivers side bolster but their website doesn't give an option to add damage like WBAC and I tried explaining it over the phone but they weren't interested and told me to wait for the inspection so will see where we end up on it.

We sold our old XC90 last month with them. 2008 with 100k on the clock and lots of issues. Not great condition. Think book value for good condition was £3000. One garage offered us £600, another garage said it was rare to find a manual one so offered us £1500 knowing the coking issues the car has had too. WBAC gave us £2500 for it. Nearly snapped his hand off.

Thought I'd provide a further post on my experience of we Want Any Car having had an appraisal today and ultimately I have sold the car to.them!

So their online valuation was a little over £5700 but as I said above I thought it was too high and the downside of their website is there is no option to list damage and issues. By comparison I.went on WBAC listed all the issues as I saw them and they offered me £4300.

The We Want Any Car guy turned up at my house this morning and was a decent guy i went round the car with him and he picked out the same issues I saw, every wheel kerbed, scratch on rear bumper from someone rubbing against it in a car park. And splitting to the drivers seat bolster, a common issue with the model. He took it off for a test drive which was fine and came back having completed the appraisal.

He offered me £5000 which I was pretty pleased with straight off the bat but I knew there was an admin fee coming so.i pushed for £5200 and we agreed on £5100 in my bank account it was the best offer I've had by about £800.

Cash was transferred there and then and all the paperwork done.

Only issue which may not suit everyone is that because they come to your home or office to do the inspection and valuation the car is now sat on the road outside my house for upto 5 days waiting for their truck to collect it, that said the delay is notified straight away the car is sold and I can cancel my insurance and they take the keys with them so its not really my issue and I have no ongoing responsibility.

Overall im pleased with the service easy transaction and im not spending my weekend waiting for tyre kickers.

We are lucky to live close to one of their centres. We just drove to them and they did the valuation, paperwork and took the car off us on the day after we agreed to sell. Easiest car sale I've ever done.

So i sold my car with WBAC 2 weeks ago tomorrow, and i still have not received anything through the post to confirm its changed hands etc,
Should i have done something online??, I gave him the V5, didn't sign anything on the V5, wasn't given anything from the V5 i.e. tearing bits off etc.
He gave me a piece of paper which was printed from an application done online, and it said in Progress, but i don't know if i needed to do anything extra.
How did your selling to WBAC go?, did you have to complete anything online or by post? how long did it take to receive anything through the post?

Cheers all

Have you got the money? If so I’d be less bothered.

You could write to the DVLA to cover yourself.

Surely by virtue of asking these questions you have realised that you're responsible for doing something when selling your car???
