I informally extended my VWFS lease for 3 months (cancellable at any time) the day before this "free as long as insured" info came to light. TBH I don't mind paying but it'll be a challenge to use up my remaining mileage allowance under the current regime!

The replacement (840i) is half-built and sat on a stopped production line in Bavaria currently (based on the last update I had)

Mark V GTD and others who cancelled early and are having problems with VWFS recognising your final payment;

As per their termination letters, you shouldn’t cancel your direct debit until you have spoken with an advisor.

Once you have spoken with an advisor and they confirm your payment has been received, they will cancel your direct debit their end and also close your account, this is the vital step which ensures it all matches up.

If you only pay your termination amount and don’t ring them up, as per the letter, they’ll keep taking payments (or trying) and put you in arrears.
I've done exactly this, payment was due today. Lets see what happens.
Struggling to get through to them to do this.

You may be too late, as you may need a few days for the payment to clear. If your bank uses the faster payments system though you might be OK. Suggest you call them after 2 hours to check they are in receipt of your payment, but make sure you call them before they close today.
I paid it off on Friday, payment received their end and they claim to have cancelled the DD....
Apologies I misunderstood. What did they tell you when you phoned up? That you could keep the car and use it providing it was insured? Or something else?

Just to clarify, I only phoned them once I already had a settlement figure quotation. I requested this online at myAudifinance.vwfs.co.uk and it came through in about a week.

However, I’m just speaking from my own experience. I suppose they may be able to provide you with a quote over the phone and you can do it all in one swoop.

If it’s been officially confirmed that the extension was to go ahead, then I’m confident you’ll most likely need to suck it up.
Yes I suspect that will be the case then. I've emailed them to ask them to consider the situation but just a case of bad timing. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Yes, they told me that. Not that I intend to tbh.

Nice. Sounds like the advice is becoming more consistent.

I think there just needs to be a bit more clarity regarding those who don’t wish to insure the car. It looks like BMW FS are allowing customers to SORN the car and not insure it, it will be interesting to see if VWFS follow this path.

VWFS did say more information will be released on this in due course so just have to wait and see.

Ah - my contract has expired but theyre offering me another 6months for the same price but seems pointless since I don't need the car for groceries and I cant use the thing anyway!

VWFS lease customers cannot SORN their cars as they are registered to VW.

They will be registered to VWFS and it’s their problem if they SORN it or tax it.

Regardless, BMW FS seem to be a bit ahead of the game on the insurance aspect of it all. Will be interesting to know what VWFS decide.

I’m unlikely to use the car so would prefer to cancel my insurance and get the rest of my premium for the year refunded.

Has anyone tried to call today? I just did and it said they’ve closed the phone lines to respond to people who have already contacted. I sent an email over a week ago and received nothing back.

Just an update on similar lines from different company - Leaseplan. Their website still has some contradictory info on but they are now advising as below for returns.

Got through after long hold, advised them I do not want any extension after contract end 12 April. Already had early collection cancelled.

They confirmd they have insurance in place. Went through list of things to do, usual stuff, pics/video, mileage, don't drive, advise where parked and also sent me an email with all this in and where to send the info on contract end date.

They seem to do that a lot, hit and miss when I can get through.

Got to be honest, of all the lease companies, considering vwfs must be one the biggest as they deal with all VAG group cars, are absolutely dog st.

Just to add to your info gents.

I paid my early settlement about a week before lockdown this was already well planned as I was being deployed with the military for 6 months last minute. So paid up 6 months early.

I was told to wait for 3-4 days to allow payment to clear and it to ping on BCA system. I waited a week and BCA confirmed it on there system but were obviously not taking bookings.

Phoned VWFS for some clarity. They confirmed even though I’ve paid off in full I can continue to use the car in full(no use to me as I’m out of country) I asked if I could cancel my direct debit(hadn’t read this thread) and they said yes but I would get an arrears letter due to not having an appointment with BCA but I could ignore it and it wouldn’t affect my credit file.

That’s my experience so far, my main point is I want to save myself some money on my insurance I’m currently paying.

Thanks Liam.

What date did you get this information? I.e what date did you phone?

Don't rely on that - they did the same to me but then I checked my credit file and surprise surprise, a missed payment was recorded.

I though this was all over as the agreement was paid off early February - but today I received yet another letter chasing non-existent owed money.

Beginning to wonder what I can do to shame this awful company publicly - apart from contribute to this thread.

I phoned Monday before seeing this thread. I did actually say this better not say anything on my credit rating. I know they can remove that but that’s just more hassle more so cause I’m not in the UK to deal with it.

My payment was due out yesterday if I hadn’t if paid it off so I will keep an eye out on Experian.

I had exactly the same with vwfs. Credit score went from 999 down to 740. I told them I was in the process of applying for a mortgage too.

After a fair few calls and lots of time on hold, they eventually sorted it and it's now been removed from my Experian file.

Right pain in the arse tho.

I've chucked a thread on moneysavingexpert, see if anyone on there is also having difficulty, link below;

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/61...

BCA are still closed for bookings, still no response from VWFS nor any confirmation of the complaint I logged with them both on their website and on the phone, and still no update on their useless website, though that's what their automated email response and phone lines seem to be telling customers to go.

Terrible company to deal with when there is an issue.
