What’s your best price?
Discussion
I'm saying Personally I'd rather not see pictures of wide angles and digital effects that you won't see in the flesh.
Very few cars 'pop' in the sunlight as much as they do on some pictures.
I'd rather be honest with the pictures, then it's a nice surprise for the buyer if you happen to sell it on a sunny day.
Digitally enhancing tired paintwork I totally agree, that's just a con.

I recently sold my BMW 330D E91 to a car trader. Honestly, he was the easiest person I've ever sold a car too.
His messages were written very well, sent a £500 deposit (before collection), turned up on time, didn't haggle while at my house, paid for the car and left. He was a lovely chap, turns out we had a lot of similar interests (watches etc) and we've messaged a few times since, genuinely seems like a good chap.
Back to the point of this thread -
WBAC was offered £250 less than what the trader bought the car for. If I received one more "what's your best price bruv?", then the car was going to WBAC without a shadow of doubt.
I'm glad I got out of the car selling game years ago, as I truly hate it now.

I recently sold our Polo to a trader via an Ebay ad.
He tried the haggling game over a number of emails but I stuck to my guns as I knew it was a good car, fairly priced.
He agreed to pay the asking price and came and picked it up from my drive, never even saw him. A painless deal.
He said he was having trouble getting stock and couldn't satisfy the demand, which is probably why he paid £1000 over WBAC's offer on my £2500 car. Doubt that it's like that all the time.

Just sold my mx5 advertised on ebay, gumtree and Facebook.
Only advertised on the latter two as they are free, but I was surprised by the lack of rubbish enquiries. 2 PayPal scammers (1 ebay & 1 gumtree) , 2 low(ish) offers via email (eBay) , and 2 phone calls (eBay and gumtree) over 3 weeks. Both phone calls were with very reasonable chaps, the second of which, the gumtree lead, purchased on inspection.
A good experience overall and a good uplift from Wbac.

If you’re interested, come look at it. Talk to me about it and tell me why you think it’s worth £1000 less than I’ve advertised.
This. Every time. In my experience the people who eventually buy a car are the ones who don't even discuss price until after they have looked at the car.

I've been offered all sorts in the past for my cars. In the main though, it's usually Playstations and Staffy pups
I had a Suburu wrx for sale once. About six grand. Superb drivers car, but I got fed up being called a chav. I had three viewings from different blokes, all who brought along their families, buggies and dogs. One lot set up camp on our front lawn, eating a takeaway and changing nappies. Wife wasn’t amused.

HahaWife wasn’t amused.
The problem is, as a buyer I want to do the deal before in case when I get there that is the sort of person I am buying from.
Also, sometimes I would rather do the deal via email, as, as horrible as it sounds, speaking to the seller/buyer on the phone more often than not puts me off.
Just because this thread is as good as any place to vent...why is selling such a chore?
Put car up for sale at £2600 last week
Get offer of £2200 from someone without being asked any questions, can 'collect today'.
Counter offer £2300 and give them extra info about history, etc.
Get sent details of an almost identical car with 4k less miles up for £3200 (which is also 175 miles away) and told mine is 'too expensive' so only wants to pay £2000.
I politely wish them luck with their search.
Three days later get text saying' they've been thinking about it and can offer me £1900 today'. Like they'd be doing me a favour!
I think others are right, internet is full of dreamers asking about cars they'll never buy unless someone is desperate and offers a car in return for loose change and a packet of crisps. All of which would be fine if they included any niceties when communicating.
Whinge over. Don't think I'd sell my Twingo 133 to them now even if they offered more than asking price. Just frustrated by someone bartering by offering a price then lowering it repeatedly. Don't bloody offer an amount if you won't pay it!

Although a dealer, we don't haggle on prices, they are what they are. We sift through the loony/stupid/daft/time wasting messages and only talk to genuine customers. After dealing with the public for so many years weeding out the losers is easy..
Would you class me as a loony time waster ? Just Interested.I contacted a dealer last week about this...I filled in the part ex form on the website.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
I got a decent part ex offer back that might have tempted me so asked them to send me details of the following (I'm 5 hours away so can't view it)
1. Details of the service history, where and when etc.
2. Tyre tread depth (approx)
3. Disc and pad wear.
Didn't get a reply, so didn't pursue it. Their loss and its still up for sale.
My guess he presumed I was a time waster, completely unaware I was a genuine cash buyer, looking for an RCF for ages, owned two Lexus.

Such a stupid question. Ok I had it up for £20k but my best price is actually £10k. You got me with your expert negotiation...
Just reply with - what’s your best offer?
Don't even indulge them with that. My response to "what's your best price?" Is "£4bn" before hanging up.Just reply with - what’s your best offer?
Likewise "cash deal/cash price" is always met with "how else do you think you were going to pay for it?"
Just adding to my post above.
I'm currently negotiating on a car hundreds of miles away
I got them to send me a copy of the service book, I asked for tyre tread, disc and pad wear and lots of photos. This lot played ball because they wanted to sell the car. On the pics I saw both front alloys had been slightly kerbed and pointed that out.
Dealer sends it to alloy shop. I google it and ring them. They have a decent reputation but tell me something about the door and they 'can't fix that'. They then go all shy on me.
I contact the dealer who say bodywork is uptogether - didn't want to breach the confidence of the alloy / dealer relationship so noted it.
I contacted the garage who did the last service and made sure they were genuine and got copy of the receipts. From the receipt I got a contact number for the previous owner. I contacted them and got more information than the dealer would ever give. Well looked after, no stone chips, bodywork and Interior in excellent condition and one Interesting thing - it had a dink on it where it was hit by a cricket ball.
Back to the dealer - new pads and discs fitted, tyres 4 mm all round so asked 'about the dink'.....no comment. Asked for 'dink' to be sorted and for some decent pictures to prove it.
I still haven't put a deposit on it.
To me that's basic stuff, if dealers don't want to do their job and be honest they get binned, there are plenty of cars out there.
