This Kia E-Niro seems decent value compared to other options at the moment.

https://www.leasingoptions.co.uk/specialdeal?id=a5...

£300 on 1+23 for 5k miles. Maintained £10pm extra, metallic £28pm extra. 10.2pm excess mileage.

Still can't work out if this represents decent value in the times we're in.
Edit ignore that
The price through your link doesn’t reflect that, you need to go thru hukd to get those figures

Apologies, link obviously works for me due to browsing history. Here's the link to hukd.

I was very interested in this but just looked at the spec compared to the 3 and 4 and it’s a bit poverty if you ask me. https://www.kia.com/uk/new-cars/e-niro/specificati...

Yeah I hadn’t realised it had changed from the original and there are now different trim levels

You can program the button on the end of the indicator stalk to turnoff the lane assist. That’s what I programmed mine to do anyway! I’d actually say it’s bordering on dangerous. Sometimes the cameras have picked up old lines from road works and tries to push you into other lanes. It’s also slammed the brakes on a few times when it’s seen people waiting to cross the road on bends. I’m coming up to the end of my deal but I still like the car despite its flaws. It’s a nice car for my commutes, fast enough and cheap to run.

Anyone explain the pros and cons of paying a large amount upfront and lower payments against a small amount upfront and higher payments?
Pro's - Only one I can think of, which is the obvious lower monthly costs.

Con's - If the car is stolen or written off, you'll loose a bigger chunk of your upfront capital. Secondly, more of your money is effectively "tied up", but that's only something you can really determine from a financial perspective.

Other than that, nothing I can see. It's not like a mortgage where the "deposit to total payments ratio" get yours preferential monthly rates or anything - As a rule, the initial rental + total monthlies generally equates to about the same cost regardless if its a 1+23 or 12+23, especially with the bigger lenders.
You are absolutely right however the lease on my X5 was £100 cheaper over the term on a 12 + 35 v 6 + 35. Not much at all and not sure why?

My wife has the A6 S Line 50TFSi plus in hybrid and I agree Lane assist is damn right dangerous and picks up the groves in tarmac and thinks it’s a line and throws you towards the verge. Have to switch it off every time we get into it. Great tech, feels premium and good range on electric but has visited the Audi garage too many times unfortunately. Just unlucky I guess but on a short 18 month lease with Santander which ends in March. Have ordered a BMW iX3 premium edition which can be cancelled with no fee and a Lexus 300e Takumi. Lexus is coming in £62 cheaper per month so am tempted to go with that.

That's called fronting - similar to insurance. Is it possible for you to find a company that delivers to NI? A lot of leasing companies are delivering there now.
Ultimately the question needs to be posed to the prospective lease company but I am confident that it is less of an issue to do that with a lease as you are buying the use of a vehicle rather than purchasing a vehicle with a secured loan (in the case of hire purchase etc where fronting is definitely not permitted).
Yep, we do this on our Leaf. I rented it, Lady F insures it and is the main driver.

I'd love the Leaf but I would suffer from range anxiety too much. As it is I regularly forget to fill up and run my cars down to 0 miles

Yebbut you can't just have your normal car fill itself back up with petrol while it's parked up on the drive/garage overnight, so with a tiny change in your behaviour you would get in the car every morning and it would have a full "tank".

EV detractors never ever mention this bit. I've not got an EV and won't be getting one anytime soon, but the fact that you can charge them up at home if you want is a really big attraction - the PH "V8 weekend toy" mob love to point out your 40 minute recharge, but fail to mention that you'd only do this on a long trip (how often do you (most people) drive 300 miles?) and at all other times you would never charge away from home at all - so in fact the ICE drivers spend more time filling up.

This is very true, and an excellent way of looking at it. The inconvenience of having to charge a vehicle can be turned into the convenience of being able to charge a vehicle at home. I barely drive 300 miles a week, so would be perfectly fine charging at home twice a week to avoid any range issues.

Completely agree on the lane assist on Audis, outright dangerous - I coded it off as soon as we got out 40tdi S Line A6. I don't understand why manufacturers are so hell bent on having it on and it being difficult to permanently switch off. Our A6 spent to much time at the dealer as well and I returned the lease 4 months early

One benefit of larger up front payment is if you think you might want an 'informal extension' - last few leases I've done 2 years but knowing I'd extend for 6 months. So benefit from lower payments across the term

I wrote off an E class coupe just under five months into a lease - luckily I’d “only” put 3 months as the initial payment.

If I’d done a 9 or 12 months down contract I’d have been looking at a huge loss.

You can insure the initial payment but only the first £2k last time I set it up; I’d always recommend doing this.

I fail to see why you’d put down more than the minimum; the difference over the full term is basically nothing - even Ling Valentine says the same, and who is going to argue with her?

I agree. I always go 1+. The only reason for putting more in upfront would be if it significantly reduced the overall cost, or as I mentioned earlier it meant you could extend at the lower rate and were likely to do so, but who knows that when taking lease out.

On another note do you need to inform lease company if spouse will drive the car too? I can't recall if I told Santander and Lex with out previous leases. I vaguely recall Santander saying it was fine. We are both named drivers on each others insurance.

Also will Zen wait 14 days before processing my order? I ordered a cupra leon estate a couple of days back. Are they likely to sit on the order until cooling off has expired? I could do with it around 19th Oct but delivery was down for 6-8 weeks. I haven't spoken to them yet, everything was done online.

Have you found a replacement yet or still looking?

Tempted by that HUKD Niro deal. Been looking for months and our X3 goes back in late November... have three young kids... X3 has been big enough (surprisingly), but would the Niro be big enough? Looks smaller than the average mid-sized SUV.

Because if they don't do it that way NCAP will dock them safety marks.
