718 GTS 4.0 Porsche.

Harry’s Garage rates is like nothing else
Was gonna suggest this too - he was very enthusiastic about it, Made me fancy one myself after watching that review!
Im not super familiar with Porsche, but 718 is the latest Cayman and Boxster models right? If I do a quick look for 4.0 GTS they are a big out of my price range! Around 80k for a 4.0, I could get a 2.5T for within my price range though.

I think the 4.0 gts boxster is about £65k brand new? ETA: https://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/boxster/202234/porsc...

Yep about £66k - bit of scope creep but seems ‘value’ for a 4l manual normally aspirated mid engined Porsche!

Might be some people attempting to cash in on new model -

I was in a similar situation during Feb / March this year and tried an Alpine A110s, a 718 Boxter and an Exige 350 Sport, all within a few days of one another. For me, the Exige won. It has a great sense of occasion, involves the driver more and is great on depreciation. That's not to say it'd suit everyone, or that the other cars were bad. I have other cars for daily use, and practicality didn't matter.

The only way to know what is right for you, is to go and try a few, and see them in person. It's one thing reading reviews online, but one person's good ride and handling could be a boneshaker to someone else. Same goes for practicality, 150l of boot space is fantastic if your everyday drive is a Ducati!

I would definitely recommend trying the Exige / Boxter / Alpine - all very different cars, but all great fun.

Yeah the main problem I have with LHD is I go overseas a lot for work, and drive LHD fairly frequently. I find it easy to swap between the two, but I think I would find it hard swapping between the two and throwing a LHD in a RHD country into the mix aswell. Maybe I'm overthinking it though.

I should look at the 4C, although I had initially written it off as most people have said its a bit of a disappointment. I was also looking at the 32/33 GTRs a couple of years ago. But I bought my RX7 instead (which I will be keeping, lovely series 8 with low miles). I think I am going to go have a look at an Alpine when I get home. When it was first suggested in this thread I looked and thought "yeah its a cool package but I can't get behind the looks" but in the last 24 hours its just been growing on me hugely.

I think I have compiled a new list of options to look at: A110, 4C, something Lotus, and inevitably Caterham as they share a showroom at my local garage!
You are over thinking it, it really isn't a big deal as I said try one they really are as special a steer as anything else listed.

i drive all four permutations of steering wheel and side of the road. driving a car on the correct side is fairly easy left or right, but i do have to pay attention when driving a car on the wrong side, it goes fine most of the and 1 in 100 i come to junction and make an initial wrong turn!! it can catch you off guard.

The car having a fixed home is also good, ie a lhd that lives in the UK so your subconscious adapts "when sat in the lhd 4C i always drive on the left". i've had rhd cars permanently on the continent and never had a 'moment'.

I really think I’d try to find another £6-8k and get a new Boxster 4.0 GTS

I'd be very surprised if any £60k sports car comes with average annual service/maintenance costs of less than £800 a year.
A110 is only half that before tyres etc. Unless you do a lot of miles I can't see it costing you more than £800 - it's very light on tyres and brakes.

I think I will be going for an Alpine honestly. Which surprises me because, I didn’t think it looked that good and wasn’t sold on the automatic. However I have spent the last couple of days watching back to back reviews and it’s really growing on me.

I will go and look at a premiere edition (I’m not sure the price increase on new one or an S is worth it). I’m also going to have a look at lotus, but I’m leaning towards the Alpine.

It would have to be one of these for me personally.

You wouldn't lose a penny on either and IMO they both look fantastic.

I was looking for an NSX for ages, but I couldn’t find one that I liked for my price point.

I was also looking at a midnight purple R33 last year, I bought an FD RX7 instead because I just couldn’t get excited by the interior of the GTR. It just felt like a normal economy box car dash and layout. I’m maybe a bit picky but the interior has got to look the part as well

The interiors definitely are a let down when you consider how good the exterior looks.

When did GT cars become sports cars?
Practically none of the suggestions are sport cars.
Exactly what I was thinking ...... New Supra laugh

For the budget there is only one manufacturer that supplies a newish car that will be zero hassle to own, will come with a comprehensive warranty and will soak up any punishment you give it without falling apart or needing lots of cash to rectify.

Will a V10 R8 really go up in value? I've always thought of them as having quite a downmarket image.

Despite their undoubted performance, I can't see them as an affordable supercar at all.

agree.
they have a "TT" look and while that's unfair in reality they do not look distinctive enough.
surely the pure V10 supercar is the original Lamborghini on which it's based?

however, as a low depreciation performance car, great proposition.

I’d personally go for the alpine a110 s
Amazing looking car, get one new for your budget (50k up)
Never seen one on the road and certainly a head Turner.
If you want a car for the driving experience then it’s the car to go for!

Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do too. But the tight arse in me is now thinking I should get a used 2018 premier edition and pocket the difference between them (£45K ish and the £58K ish of the S)
