Sorry just caught up on this, so was the original car clocked or not?
you have to make your own judgement on that.

It's not the kind of car that'll just be left to rot in a dealership back yard so presumably it'll make a reappearance on the market at some point with the true mileage or a relevant disclaimer about the reading?

Just been directed here via another thread.

I am please to see that there are some companies with a conscience still around.

It’s a lovely car.

Likewise I clicked on this via another thread and what a great outcome. Would love to have known:
1) the value difference between the two cars (OPs upside)
2) what happened to the old car (slammed through the trade?)
3) what RR did to the franchise dealership and what investigations they did
4) …the dialogue between the CEO and MD…priceless no doubt
5) just how that car got into the Provenance system - how many employees at the dealership were implicit in turning a blind eye
6) whether any money changed hands between the hire coy guy who PX’d it and the dealership staff beyond the fact perhaps another order was placed

Sadly we’ll never know frown

Brilliant outcome.
So begs the question.
What did that new car cost if an ordinary buyer was to buy it ?

What a thread, just goes to show how careful you have to be regardless of how much money you have,I think the OP done nothing wrong here in thinking that buying from a RR main dealer the car would be perfect.
The end result is great and i,m pleased for the op . What a beautiful looking car, enjoy it.

looks like a serious upgrade over the original car, although my RR knowledge may be off here.

if thats the case kudos to the brand for stepping in and sorting things out, its always the mark of a good business when they leave a customer in a better position after an issue.

As with a few others, just found this thread via another thread.
Great result, and I don't think there was any issue with the OP's original purchase method - if you can't 'trust'* Rolls-Royce approved used, who can you trust? That is why we, the general public, pay a premium for an 'approved used' car over an equivalent (cheaper) private sale car (but I guess it's still a cautionary tale).

(* I use the term 'trust' in the context of car dealers as loosely as possible, but you know what I mean)

Well done, though I would ask if they could swap the wheels.
Agreed, the car looks absolutely incredible but the wheels are a bit too 'Producer Michael'.
There is always one
Isn't there just.
So we're not allowed to express opinions on others' cars now? Both above posters did so in a nice way complimenting the rest of the car.

I'd agree with you if that's what RR had done in the first place. The silence from the Main Dealer and the hassle/stress the OP appears to have been put through doesn't suggest "Company with a Conscience" to me.

I think RR as a company have done the right thing but agree that the Manchester franchise would never get a penny of my money. This is why I posed the question above about wondering what RR did to the dealership because there are clearly some big problems at Manchester given how they behaved until forced to do something, plus something dodgy in how the car ended up with its Provenance status in the first place.

So we’ll done RR, and booooooo to the Manchester dealership.

This is madness that the government are not stopping this practice. Chances are every PCP car is going to be clock stopped!

Probably only worth doing on high-end hire cars that are doing a lot of miles and will depreciate more as a result.

Its much more prevalent I think.

If you do 30k miles a year you'll save a fortune if you've got a PCP set up for 6k miles a year!

Regarding the mileage stoppers, it goes beyond pcp. Those cars bought as investments, say a 458 scuderia can be subject to this. Its fraud pain and simple.

It certainly is but it still seems rife.

The average mileage of an F355 for sale has barely moved in a decade. Are all these cars mothballed?

Nope. They’re just, as a group, being clocked as much as they’re being driven.

Buy in knowing it’s probably clocked, and either clock it yourself or take it on the chin. The guy you sell it to will assume it’s clocked anyway.

It’s a funny old game.

Presumably done by the garage at the same time as getting it serviced. For this type of car, keeping the paperwork perfect I think would be important.
