Spend about £12k on a good 987 Boxster 3.2, use some of the remaining funds to do a few upgrades, including the LN IMS bearing kit. This gives you a bork-proof Boxster for less that £15k.

Has to be a Boxster, as the 3.2 never went in the Cayman, and the 3.4 gen 1 Cayman engine is very high risk for very expensive borkage. You might get a Cayman Gen 2 for that budget, but it’s likely to be quite leggy and in need of some TLC (and money, probably lots of money).
Jeez I couldn’t be arsed buying a car then putting straight to a garage

How about a Escort RS Turbo - shouldn't go down in price too much either ?

Amazing suggestions...for many, many reasons those are both amazing suggestions. I'm not going to trawl through your past posts so I don't know if you usually link similar cars to these kinds of threads but I sure hope you do. smile

A mate of mine who deals in classic cars keeps telling me to buy a classic (probably hoping it would be one of his) but I just don't think it makes sense, unless you have all other car-owning bases covered!

I had a couple of Capri 2.8 Injections back in the 80s and at the time I thought they were fantastic.

But no way would I want to spend more for a Capri than my Z4M Coupe cost last December! As good as the Capris were back in the day I'm sure they'd feel pretty sluggish now.

Have been looking around for some Honda Civic Type R FN2's, doing a couple of test drives, and they've been a nightmare to find in standard condition. Was looking at a Silver one a few days ago, reassured by the salesman it was 'unspoilt', but failed to tell me it had silicone hoses, a K&N Air Filter, and Eibach lowering springs.. Walked away.

Finally some good news from a Honda Main Dealer. I put my name down for any stock they have coming in before it goes public. Got a call yesterday about a Championship White Model with 40K on the clock. Looks in fantastic condition and they've told me it's standard.

Going to take a look at it tomorrow and taking it for a test drive. Heard good things about the LSD. Hopefully settle the deal if all goes well.
