Hello out there I've just joined this site, hoping to get some advice.I bought a audi tt in 2019,from a well known dealer in Cardiff. I thought id'e found my dream car and at that time i had come out of hospital or a few hours with my parents, plus I thought I was getting a good deal because it was cheaper than the first one i had seen at another garage that day,all the same speck just this one was cheaper. To my surprise sales guy informed me it had only 1 owner so I bought the car. Now I need to sell my car, never thought I would be told it had 7 owners not 2. I would never had bought the car if Id'e known it was 7 not 2, Please give me some advice.

I've never paid much attention to the number of owners a car has had when buying, I've always paid more attention to the service history, condition and spec. Bearing that in mind, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

What do you want advice on?

Are you saying that now that you are aware that the car has had 7 previous keepers, you want to sell it?

or are you asking if there's any scope for returning the car to the dealer on the same basis?

If the latter, you've very very little hope of achieving that.

Wait... you bought a car in 2019 and you've only now realised its got 7 owners.

When you got the V5 in your name did you not read the line on the front of it that says "No of former Keepers 7"

or does that say 2 and you've got 7 from another source?

^^

This; folk seem to get hung up on amount of owners and sometimes mileage these days etc...

If the car is in excellent order; well looked after & maintained to a high standard and the spec wanted; then it's good to go IMO

Obviously due diligence is needed at all times when buying a 2nd hand car; use brain not heart etc

I don't get hung up too much on mileage, but I do confess to being a wee bit wary of cars with a high number of previous keepers. Not inherently a deal-breaker in and of itself, depending on other factors, however,.

Depends how old the car is. 7 owners for one of the first TTs is prob ok, for a more recent car then I’d question why it has changed hands so quickly and the value will be impacted.

But as before, the V5 you got just after you bought the car tells you how many owners.

If there are no issues with the car I really wouldn't worry. Especially if you enjoy it. Mine has had 5 previous I think which I only looked at after I bought it as it has been so well looked after and is in great nick. As a bonus it accounted for the slightly lower purchase price to start with!

Looks like you are proving the point that impractical ‘sports’ cars tend not to be kept for a long time by owners so they invariably end up with a high number of previous keepers by the time the car is 10+ years old.

As above, condition is going to be more important to the likely next owner of the car is that sort of age.

What advice is there to give? You thought the car had two owners, it doesn't, that's it. As somebody who has also made mistakes on car purchases by not checking them properly, the best advice (imo) is to put it down to experience and move on.

Unless you've got the original advert not sure there's much you can do... Unless it's a very new car (say a couple of years old) in which case it would be worth going back to dealer to have a conversation.

But, as you've realised, it's not that common for people to check V5 for amount of previous owners. If car is over five years old wouldn't worry too much.
