Might need a bit of haggling, but a BMW 340i touring or 440i Gran Coupe is where I’d be looking. That’s what I did although I went for the Coupe as I don’t need the practicality. Apart from steering, the BMW is a huge step up from the Giulia Veloce.

I’ve seen a few comments mention the Giulia Quadrifoglio as a comparison to the Veloce - this is folly. I have driven a Quad and it is a totally different animal and driving experience to a Veloce and sitting at a massively different price point. The Quad is amazing but the general similarity in looks is where the comparison ends (or should).

It also should be remembered that Alfa Romeo ownership/love is almost like a cult and when it comes to getting a balanced opinion, you are often on a hiding to nothing. “It’s ok if it does that, because it’s an Alfa” and loads of other rubbish Have a look at some of the Alfa Romeo forums and you’ll see what I mean.

Again, the Veloce is not a terrible car, it’s just not a finished/polished product and you can do much better.

@MARKJS

Thanks, i did join a face group for alfa giulia and asked the question even though most were positive I did keep seeing new FB group posts everyday about something not working :/ which is why I am hesitant considering all these comments about Veloce for cars with less than 20k miles on it..

Will certainly look at BMW gran coupe thanks for the heads up.

Leaping to the alfa's defence I'm not sure what aspects of the BMW are massively better - certainly when compared on a more like for like basis of 430i v veloce. The 440i is very compelling but is more expensive. There are certainly elements of the bmw that are better ie infotainment, parts of the interior (knobs and shifters) , dealer availability etc

But the alfa is a fair bit (130kg) lighter and I would say you can feel the difference. Steering is better (as you said) , better specification as standard, better warranty (later models) and some aspects of the interior are better (aluminum paddles, excellent leather seats, lovely steering wheel). I would say it's a pretty competitive package

That said both the 4 series and giulia are great cars and have their merits, I've got both on my short list when it comes to replace the family car.

The other car to consider would be a jag xe s with the 3.0 supercharged v6 - although it's probably the least practical it's a highly regarded dynamic package. They also put the same engine in the xf if you want a bigger car.

As for cults, the Germans are much the same, just the cult is more successful!

I think the only bit I can agree with there are the paddles - but that’s more because they are fixed and large.

All I can say is that my views are based on my experience and nothing else. I chose to buy the Alfa and whilst it wasn’t a terrible car, it wasn’t a great experience. Opinions were asked which is a huge part of what thIs forum is about - I have mine because I’ve done it. It is as simple as that.

I actually owned a f30 330i prior to the Alfa Veloce.

The 330i remains the only car that has ever left me stranded after it threw up a stop start error in traffic on the M62 and refused to restart.

Just goes to show every manufacturer has issues.

I prefer the Alfa personally (interior is worse, but i much prefer the driving experience). It hasn’t left me stranded (yet), but there is still time before the lease expires! smile

A very good final point that is often missed on PH. beer

Either way OP it seems the answer is not the A7!

So ... I've owned three of the cars here.

Had a Giulia Veloce for a short while, a 440i GC for 2 1/2 years and now have a Giulia QV.

Veloce and QV are chalk and cheese. Not comparible.

The Veloce is a great car, far more fun and chuckable than the 440i, and realistically shouldn't let you down. It feels ridiculously light and agile.

BUT ...

The 280bhp Veloce engine is ridiculously thirsty. As in I struggled to ever get above 29mpg (getting 22 from the QV) even driving sensibly.

On the same commute the 440i consistently returned 36mpg without even considering eco mode.

The B58 engine is just incredible; quite thirsty when pushed, but no worse generally on fuel than most 2.0T engines when driven normally. But sounds and goes SOOOO much better. You unfortunately though can't get away from the feeling of extra weight, especially when braking.

Personally I'd go 440i if you can. Then stick the MPPSK on it (as long as it was built before July 2018) and enjoy.

I'll probably go back to a B58 engined BMW (or perhaps an FK8 Type R) when the Alfa has bankrupted me at the pumps biglaugh

Loved my Giulia Veloce over the 2 years of ownership.
Amazing steering handling and ride, comfortable seats and smooth 4 pot.
Interior ambience way behind the likes of c class and A4 but that’s not what this car is about.
My current c43 not a patch on it for driving experience and build quality !

Thanks for all the advice guys! You've put me in the right path of purchasing the right car! I have finally decided to buy the BMW 440i 3.0 320hp. Looks lovely! Exterior and interior wise! Attached few pics of the car am looking to purchase smile

Nice one - watch out for wear on the seat pad and bolsters on the driver's seat.

I had white leather and it wore really badly over 27k miles. The paint essentially completely wore off.
