Was I out of order ? Upset salesman
Discussion
Considering all garages are selling cars at Distance rules since the national lockdown and will be till the non-essential retail rule is lifted, I call BS on the OP. There's no viewing of cars, except potentially on unlocked open forecourts, even then you can't see inside the cars and the salesmen certainly don't come out to greet you or get an additional member of staff involved. I doubt any Mercedes dealership will break these rules.

I am a new member who joined a couple of days ago. I’ve looked through the forum and want to be apart of it. Obvious Troll is Obvious.
I do not have the appearance of a troll. How can you make that assumption when you don’t even know me ?

My logic exactly. From the consumers point of view they are offloading a car needing loads of work done to it. Perhaps it’s for the best that I didn’t buy it as perhaps the previous owner ran it into the ground.
I will phone the salesman back and give him a chance but I would need to be really impressed to buy it.
I wouldn’t bother there are plenty of other cars around surely.I will phone the salesman back and give him a chance but I would need to be really impressed to buy it.

Back in 1982 when I was young whipper snapper I was thrown out of a pub because I did a crap in a urinal due to the toilets being out of order. Another customer walked in just as I was wiping my backside. He was horrified and told a bouncer. The bouncer came in and lifted me up and threw me out the back door.
Cool poo story.Quite a difference in writing style and grammer to your other posts though... One would almost think it was deliberate.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
Do franchised dealers really retail cars for £16k needing as much work as the OP describes?
Never bought a car from a dealer but I'd always assumed you paid the inflated prices for a well prepped car.
Thousands of dealers all with different standards! Do franchised dealers really retail cars for £16k needing as much work as the OP describes?

Rolls Royce approved have had issues as is evident from a PH thread but you could buy a corsa from VX and be 100% fine!
In the same way a dealer often low balls a first trade in offer, I always do the same. I don't storm off in a huff when they lowball me. I always qualify that I know that they probably can't get to that price, but I'm looking at a few cars so want to know what we can get to.
For those who hate this approach, I've saved more than a combined £7k on my last two cars. Worth a try. Just be really polite, thank them and never waste their time.
Works for me.

It depends on the car though, the last one I purchased from a dealer was up at 17k, it had every toy thrown at it and had it been at a mini dealer it would have been 20k. I asked for something off, was refused so just put a deposit on it and collected it a week later, I knew it was a cheap car compared to others. For those who hate this approach, I've saved more than a combined £7k on my last two cars. I find it's best to inject good humor into the exchange. So whatever you say as your reply to their trade-in offer, say it with an amused smile. For those who hate this approach, I've saved more than a combined £7k on my last two cars. Worth a try. Thank you for all replies. I am glad some people agree that I was in the right. I know some people think my offer was unrealistic but all I care about is how much it costs me so want to make myself feel like I am getting a bargain. I do not care about the salesman at all. We all have to provide for our families and all negotiate.
I will phone the salesman and tell him my offer stills stand. I will also tell him not to take it personally and I will tell him I don’t care about his targets should he bring it up.
The customer is always right.
