Jimny engine too weak I'd say.
I'm thinking Defender 90 2.2 turbo diesel with a quality remap. Jeep Wrangler 4.0 straight 6 petrol with stock engine.
I think the right tyres will be crucial. 80 series at a guess.

This place sounds amazing! If you go for it please do a thread on it - love the idea of something like this

What about a Land Rover forward control or a unimog if you want some load capacity - though I think the idea of something like a quad etc or a tractor is probably better - going up is one thing coming down is a different matter!

No 4x4 can get over Nicola.

But seriously if rocks is the issue I’d go Jimmy, Panda 4x4 or the Hilux, Wrangler, Defender end of things.

On a more useful suggestion, I would think something like this might be perfect for the job: http://argovehicles.com/vehicles/ - They're reasonably capable, so should work for allowing you to get around the rest of the land (Amphibious too!) - Only issue would be finding a cheap one.

That looks like a lot of the stuff you see being attempted in US-based youtube off roading videos, could imagine a Wrangler managing.

As long as you have a low enough gear you don't actually need lots of torque to climb a hill (slowly), and Jimnys are very light.

Is the whole track like that, or just bits of it? Because if it's two miles like that, I'd imagine that any 4x4 would be going at basically walking pace anyway, so you'd be looking at c. half an hour to get up to the cottage.

Half an hour would be right. It's dreadful all the way almost.

That looks about the right tool for the job, a land rover or similar is going to take an utter pasting over that track.

I was idly trying to find something like a telehandler with a 4-passenger cab.

Toyota Hilux. Almost nothing else will survive that kind of abuse. Jimny will do it, but I question the driveline longevity compared to the solid axles of the hilux.

Forward control Land Rover is a great shout, I had one for a bit and it would easily get up there. They have the shackles in the cab to have it delivered by helicopter too smile

No.
Not worth paying loads for a boat for an occasional holiday home. Don't want all the training and certificates I'd need for it.
Not enough carrying capacity on a trials bike or in a back pack.
Non starter.
