Price for Early Mk3 Focus
Discussion
Was about to pull the trigger on something 25K+ as I need to replace a company car when I realised how messed up the market is at the moment. Really don't fancy paying so much over the odds at the moment so going to a plan B which is buy a stop gap family car which will eventually be the 2nd car.
Looking at an early Mk3 focus 1.0l 125PS, ideally Titanium trim or Zetec S (manual) but wanted to know if the crazyness has extended all the way down the market. I have no idea if £5K to £6K is good for price and if I should wait it out.

It's a good choice but at your price point I'd go for the 1.6T 150bhp Titanium X is the pick:

I'm looking in the same kind of ball park and idly wondering the same? Specifically a 2013 ish Focus or fiesta.
I read somewhere prices are up about 15% on average this year. But on a 5k car, this is 700 quid or so? Worth waiting out for? Seems like a small amount of money to wait for. How long?

I wanted to keep to as small engine as possible for lower fuel running costs and tax, but price wise the 1.6T looks good value so might be worth a bit more investigating. The Astra is a good car too but neither the wife or I are keen on the styling so it really just down the the focus.
Here's the thing because of the 1.6T extra low down grunt over the 1.0T the real world the fuel difference is between 4-6mpg in favour of the 1.0T but if you do any long runs the 1.6T's longer gearing will make it a more relaxing place to be.The biggest cost difference will be the tax with the 1.6T being an extra £125, in all honesty I'd pay it to have the better all rounder.

From my experience of a 1.0, 1.4T and 1.6, the small turbo doesn’t end up any more efficient than the 1.6 because the turbo is always spinning even if on a low boost. The biggest cost difference will be the tax with the 1.6T being an extra £125, in all honesty I'd pay it to have the better all rounder.
The most efficient is the 1.0 na because you can’t force it to use that much more fuel.
Although I like the 1.6 as has the extra acceleration I prefer when joining slip roads. The 1.0 is still okay and safe but needs a bit more thinking.
A 1.6Turbo I don’t know about

The 1.0l Ecoboost do seem to have a considerable premium at the moment so 2 more Q's then if I may..The biggest cost difference will be the tax with the 1.6T being an extra £125, in all honesty I'd pay it to have the better all rounder.
For the 1.6 I can see both regular 1.6 Ti-VCT and the 1.6 Ecoboost. Are they similar base engines except one has the turbo? Looks like it goes 80ps up to 182, with the Ecobost being the top two and by the sounds of it the better pick.
The 1.0 Ecoboost did have a bit of a rough start with a few recalls, I gather the 1.6 Ecboost fared much better?
ZX10R NIN said:
The 1.6 Ti-VCT is an N/A engine the 1.6T is a variation of that engine, Ford carried out the same recall as the 1.0T on the 1.6T as some engines had suffered with the hose issue.
I read about the hose issue and I should be able to check that has been done.Sounds like I need to setup a search alert then on the 1.6 titanium's! Also got my eye on the Zetec S as the body kit looks epic however getting one with kit anywhere is near a titanium is unlikely sadly :/

Is the 1.6 significantly better than the later 1.5?I've driven a few of the 1.0 125s (earlier and later, which felt slightly different) and have to say that they were not lacking in response or low rpm torque (unlike my Mondeo 1.5T, which feels like a bigger n/a engine that needs to be held in low gears to extract the performance).

Probably pretty well placed to answer, I bought a 61 plate 1.6 Ecoboost Ti-X estate on around 79,000 miles from a small dealer in December 2019 for 5700 and aside from tyres and a rear wheel speed sensor its been faultless. Went through 91,000 miles this weekend, does between about 37-43mpg real world which I think is reasonable with the largest 18" wheels and being an estate.
The engine is fairly diesel like in its character with plenty of low down shove as mentioned, i've been very happy so far. Hopefully that helps reflect on where prices are currently at. Cheers
