5 month lease car with rusty arches?
Discussion
Surface rust on discs is normal.
The caliper also looks like it has a bit of surface rust, a quick going over with a wire brush would sort it but take it back to the dealer if you are concerned about it.
We can't really see the arch in the images but I would be surprised if that is rusty also. If it is, then a trip to the dealer is definitely in order.
As others have said, avoid the hand car washes as they use really aggressive chemicals on the car which tends to fade or dull anything plastic.

I had this on my 2015 Golf GTD literally within week's of picking it up from the dealer brand new, having never been near a "hand car wash" or acidic wheel cleaner (to my knowledge).
Other than looking unsightly, it'll do no harm, so as above, don't worry.
Unsightly discs matter! To some people. Could just be me.Other than looking unsightly, it'll do no harm, so as above, don't worry.
Bit of paint definitely helps though. These were painted at approx nine months and were eight years old when the pic was taken. Washing the car with a pure shampoo like Bilt Hamber Autowash that contains an anti-corrosive also helps.

My Golf was on lease - I literally couldn't care less really.Bit of paint definitely helps though. These were painted at approx nine months and were eight years old when the pic was taken. Washing the car with a pure shampoo like Bilt Hamber Autowash that contains an anti-corrosive also helps.
The Mini countryman that followed didn't have this issue, nor has my current Cupra.....
Nice looking brakes, but certainly a step too far for me.....
Oh lawd, thanks for the comedy guys...
My bad I meant AXLES not arches I didn't think twice before posting...
But yes it's odd that at 5 months this has happened and I did use a hand car wash place but I've not had this issue ever before.
What's the best way to get rid of the unsightly rust and clean it up?
My bad I meant AXLES not arches I didn't think twice before posting...

Which paint did you use and could you give some advice on diying it
I'm fussy about keeping cars in the best possible condition but as others have said even I wouldn’t bother on a lease vehicle. Its a fair bit of work.Having said that if you're set on keeping them looking good the discs, calipers and carriers can be painted without removing them. They have to be spotlessly clean and dry before starting, a strong detergent and stiff brush will be sufficient. A small wire brush for stubborn or corroded areas. I used Hammerite smooth black and you can spray (with lots of masking) or brush which is easier. Avoid getting paint on rubber components, the swept surface of the disc, bleed nipple threads or the wheel mounting face. Removing the pads and hardware isn't essential but actually speeds things up. Two coats minimum when brushing three if spraying.
The paint is fairly heat resistant but mine's a hybrid where regen limits load on the discs, until the battery pack is fully charged then it's hydraulics only. Descending a steep mountain pass a few years later actually had the paint bubbling. Wondered what the crackling sound was just before the paint fumes hit, remarkably the finish didn't suffer!
Did I mention its a fair bit of work.
