Hi all,

I know you don't have to get serviced at a main dealer to preserve warranty. Does anyone know if it is a condition in Mercedes PCP deals (taken out in 2018) that the car must be serviced with them?

Cheers

Check your PCP/finance agreement. You are correct in that to maintain the warranty any VAT registered garage can service your car using genuine parts but there maybe a stipulation in your finance agreeement that says in order to maintain the GFV your car needs to be serviced at Mercedes.

You can choose not to get your car serviced at Mercedes but if you VT and hand it back to Mercedes finance and they discover that "their" car hasn't been serviced by a Mercedes main agent then they can send you a bill for servicing as they would class the servicing you had done at a non-Mercedes garage as a missed service.

You will have to abide by the terms and conditions of the PCP.

You have to remember that with PCP (and HP or even Bank Loan), you don't own the car until you have paid in full for it, with PCP the supplying agent is likely to get the car back and may therefore insist that their car is only serviced and maintained by main dealer. For a Bank loan it will be different, they will probable just insist that the car is maintained to manufacturer spec, if they demand anything at all.

If you intend to buy the car outright or sell it then it doesn't matter, if you want to hand it back at the end then you need to look at what the agreement you signed says.
