20ish k car recommendations? (M140 / M125d?)

I test drove an e350d 9g the weekend just gone. A very nice car but for some reason I didnt gel with it / could justify the price over and above my current car.

Also drove an m140i - far more engaging, but the example I drove was the wrong spec, needed tyres and was top of my budget.

Overall I was a little underwhelmed (by both) - I'm not sure what I'm expecting tbh (apart from perhaps too much for my money??)

Will keep an eye out for a Guilia veloce, 340i, or maybe even a Megane RS. Neither meet the capacity requirement, but may have to compromise.
