I own a 240i so the rear space is identical to the 140 and I can confirm you don't have a chance of getting a rear facing baby seat into the rear properly if you intend on using the front passenger seat. The first rear facing seats are massive, I owned a Mk3 Focus ST whcih i would say had more rear room than the BMW and that was pretty bad too.

Now my youngest is in a front facing seat it isn't too bad.

I would recommend looking at a class size bigger than the 140, 3 series minimum size wise would be my recommendation.
Ah. Thanks for the insight. That’s that fully ruled out!
I got a rear facing baby seat in my M135i. My wife has a Mini and we get the rear facing seat in that too.

We are in a similar position of wanting something fast and practical, which also needs to fit a Dobermann.

I've narrowed it down to S4 Avant, C43 or 340i.

ETA: I was hoping we could squeeze into an RS3 but that was never going to happen, the boot was just too small.

Snap, ours is a dobie too. I like the S4 and C43 too. Almost bought a GLC43 before getting the X5 (hybrid so tax wise made sense for my business). Just think they might be slightly too much whereas a 340i is mid 20s

This has 440i GranCoupe written all over it.
The boot of a 4 series gran coupe is no place for a dog…
ah ok, fair enough. I don't know anything about dogs to be fair. I don't like them and they don't like me!

Ours is a Doberman but on the smaller side of the breed. Do you think that would still be roomy enough?

A roof box is a great idea and not something I’ve considered. How did you find the back for child seat? We didn’t think the isofix “foot” would fit in the footwell.
My 35kg dog fits in the boot of our alfa guillieta, similar size to the 1 series!

1 series will be fine my sister in law did 0-3 years in a skoda fabia

I keep looking at these, I love the silhouette and the performance from the 2L engine is impressive, but the boot opening is horribly impractical in my opinion.

Yep likewise. Previous Focus had a bit more space but both perfectly workable … just make sure you get a 5-door! Once they move to forward facing seats and then boosters it all gets much easier.

What’s the X5 40e like? I have an 18 month old and a GR Yaris as a weekend car thinking about the X5 as a perfect all rounder?
We both love it to be fair. I’m buying a defender for my business and just don’t want/need 2x 4x4s which is the only reason I’m getting rid of it. Mines the 2017 with a huge spec (pan roof, pro nav, rear cam, rear heated seats etc) and a really nice place to be. When we have more space on the drive I’ll definitely be getting the new X5.
If you’re selling mate drop me a pm.

Have had 2 baby seats in the back of the m140i I'm 6ft 2. Can't comment on a dog though. Obvious choice is a 340i touring. I know it's been suggested but don't buy a 335d. I made the mistake of going from an m140i to 335d.

I had a 5dr M140i when my daughter was just a couple of months old and in a rear facing seat - this was far more practical than the 5dr S3 I traded in for it.

I traded the M140i for our current 335d F30, my daughter (3) often mentions she misses “the noisy white car”. I wouldn’t say a 3/435d is a bad option either, the package as a whole is rather good.

Saying you can't get a rear facing seat in a M140i is wrong, I'm 5'11" and had a 5dr M140i with a rear facing seat. It was a Cybex Sirona S and fit no problems at all. We still use the Sirona and a Britax front facing in my F40 M135i and the Mrs JCW Clubman both of which I think are better all round cars then the M140i.

I went from a Disco Sport to a 2021 Cupra Leon. I have 2 dogs, toddler and I am 6ft 4. We decided that we didn't need the space of the LR and we manage just fine with prams etc.

I like them too. But they’re about the same price as the C63 estate for a similar age/mileage one(!)

Is it the estate version or hatchback? Do you have 2 dogs in the same time as the toddler?

No love for a 540i xdrive? Cheapest on Autotrader is £31k for an estate so slightly over budget.

I looked at them before getting my M140i but didn't need the space.

That's a big car. It started off a 1 series with the bigger 3 series being considered. The 5 is another class up.

I can't comment about all the paraphernalia that is required with kids but we fit our massive greyhound in the boot of my M140i quite easily, so with a roof box you might be fine for space etc?

Hatch. To be fair 2 small dogs and a toddler, but yes we all go trips at the same time without issue. Dogs normally sit in a travel crate on rear seats.

I currently have a 2019 A6 saloon and he goes on the back seats in a hammock.

My previous work car was a 320d F31 and I liked the cabin.
