No love for a 540i xdrive? Cheapest on Autotrader is £31k for an estate so slightly over budget.

I looked at them before getting my M140i but didn't need the space.
That's a big car. It started off a 1 series with the bigger 3 series being considered. The 5 is another class up.
340i touring, 440i grancoupe, s4 avant, v60 polestar all recommended above and the OP stated he liked the 3.0 straight 6... it seemed a logical option.

Indeed. X5 current car so not against something larger per se.

I do love the 540i, the new shape looks great to me. Unfortunately as you say it’s a tad over my top end!

Any scope for the Octavia VRS?
I rather like these. But it’s a car for my girlfriend to use mostly as I’ll have a defender, and she just does not like them.

Yeah I get that, shame.

I went for a M140i 3 door just before xmas. I was waiting for the correct spec for a few months and dont regret my decision.

auto, cruise, adaptive suspension, 3 door, pre GPF. Couldn't be happier. Mind you, I have no young children and 99% of the time i'm the only one in the car.

What about the X2 M35i? Don't really know much about them but it basically looks like a big fat 1 series!

Hi all

Got an X5 40e at the moment. Got a baby due in 4 weeks so going to need 2 cars between us. One being a defender, and the other to be SWMBO’s car. Budget is 30k top end but would rather spend 20k to 25k.

Test drove a 68 reg M140i today which I LOVED. But the mrs made the point that we couldn’t really fit a child seat in the back very well, and we have a medium sized dog which would not fit in the boot if we wanted to go away as a family.

Any ideas on alternatives on the above brief? A 340i or 335i touring would be ideal but there don’t seem to be any good ones in my budget nearby (North England).

Thanks in advance.
I had a 1-series for 3 yrs with a newborn baby and car seat fitted just fine, including Isofix base. My wife is 5'4" and had the seat quite far forward, which might be a concern.
Given the dog though, maybe an older X3 / X5 is the answer?

Would love a 440i GC. Had a 428i which was amazing but fear a boot might be an issue on it for the dog head height wise.

Doesn’t have to be a BMW might I add!
We are in a similar position of wanting something fast and practical, which also needs to fit a Dobermann.

I've narrowed it down to S4 Avant, C43 or 340i.

ETA: I was hoping we could squeeze into an RS3 but that was never going to happen, the boot was just too small.

Very similar to me. Want a fast estate circa £10k, keep coming back to S4 Avant.

I have an insignia at present, hateful thing, with very few redeeming qualities.
