Out those in your list, I'd be going for the XFR or the VXR8. Here are some slightly more left-field suggestions you might not have thought of

You can't get a 4 door E90 M3, but what about an E36 M3? A handsome car and won't depreciate either

If you want something really fast, I still think the W211 Mercedes E55 AMG with a uprated pulley and a remap must be the cheapest way to 200 mph

Slightly newer E63 AMG

If you have balls large enough to play 5 a side with then £15k just about gets you into a Conti GT. It's where my money would likely go because I'd convince myself that it'd be bulletproof, it likely wouldn't be.

If I had balls of steel I'd get a Maserati Quattroporte - I just love them. cloud9

But Monaro, VXR8 and Chrysler SRT options would probably be a safer bet in terms of repair bills. laugh

You have some good reliable options at your price point.

The VXR8 is a good bet, they're a very good steer quick & feel special at low speed as well as high: They won't be as quick as an XFR but they won't cost as much to run & have pretty much stopped depreciating.

6.2 VXR8:

6.0 VXR8

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202112100...

6.0 Monaro VXR

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202201061...

You can get a decent gen1 C63 which is one of the best V8's ever made & it'll map out to 500bhp, you'll have to haggle though:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202201121...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110148...

4.7TT CL500 435

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202112090...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202109297...

If you're feeling a bit of a brave pill there's the CL600:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108296...

RS6

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108096...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110309...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107175...

XFR:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202201010...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110058...
Thats some serious choices there! thanks!

I dont think im brave pill worthy laugh so the RS6 and CL600 are no gos

I think youre right VXR8 wise, i think i need to drive/passenger in one...im also wondering weather to stretch to 20K to really open up the choices and waiting a few months

C63 that youve linked also has me thinking

its not a bad place to be, at the end of the day its a 3rd car so in reality i could buy and sell and work through the list without losing too much

i work at Bentley, and im driving the latest versions regularly, because of this i dont think i could own the older one as its too dated.

But i have considered it

The C63 is a very good car BUT with a bit of bravery haggling & a little budget stretch you could land yourself a GranSport:

GT is lovely….not the cheap one but that grey one…that’s back on my list and actually thinking I might save up to 20k and get a better c63 (2010 saloon)

An awful lot of 'brave' options in the thread! Wow.

Someone mentioned Evo Lancers but I think they start at £15k. A decent one is >£20k from what I've seen (I've been stalking them).

I'd go for an Impreza. £15k will get you an awful lot of choice.
No need to stick with the STI as you can get really solid WRX and map it to around 300bhp which is hooligan enough.
We've got a Prodrive WRX at around the 270bhp mark and it's a hoot.

Impreza is my vote.

However, if you can find a C63 then I would be really tempted.

I daily my VXR8. Generally running costs are acceptable, and every drive is an event if you want it to be (hope your neighbours don't get offended by noisy cold starts!)

The Monaro seats are quite slow to give access to the rear, they take a while to slide forward and the backrests are thick, so it will always be a bit awkward posting a child in there. Only some child seats fit but decent options are available. Once in the back it's enormous though.

It's a big V8 and feels it so it's always quite fun just to be driving around in. The VXR8 is based on a newer platform and is a bit more sophisticated in all respects. This doesn't necessarily make it 'better' as you lose some of the muscle car type appeal.

Standard performance is similar between the two (assuming 6.0 Monaro), if you stretched your budget a touch you could get a supercharged one, at which point you're talking 600bhp plus so would hopefully be nippy enough hehe

You'll be hard pushed to find out that hasn't been modified (at least the exhaust), don't be afraid of modifications, if you buy a standard car you'll just end up inevitably paying for the same mods yourself hehe

Check the underside has had some rust prevention work done, from new they had an understandably more Aussie approach to rust prevention.

If you do want an auto, you can get the VXR8 with an auto but Monaros were manual only over here.

Of the options you've listed, personally the M3 doesn't feel very special in my experience, the Merc / Jag I'd imagine are closest approximations to the Aussie stuff, albeit wafty automatics with what I would imagine are not insignificant repair bills scratchchin Impreza is a totally different proposition so you'll know better than me if that's what you're after.

If you're prone to bumping in to things then body panels for the Aussie stuff will take longer to arrive, drivetrain is easily sorted via RockAuto and some UK based specialists, odd things might get hard to find though long term, silly stuff like trim bits or rubber seals maybe.

I had a JDM Impreza STI (Hawkeye). Far superior to UK models mechanically and these will continue to climb in value. You'll be lucky to get a decent one in budget, but probably can be done. Lookout for rot though, rear turrets go first generally.

Maintenance is important, but same can be said for most things on this thread. I loved mine, I used it daily and it was great fun. Some pics just cause...
