I’m after a 2+2 GT with usable rear seats for teenagers. We've got a Hybrid Cayenne when all 5 of us need transporting.

Overall I prefer to spend my money on maintenance and repairs rather than depreciation. Budget is 45-65k. I find myself looking at ‘newer’ cars like the Maserati Granturismo, slightly older cars such as the AM Rapide, and then the older still Ferrari 612.

Does anyone experience of owning these cars, or have any opinion as to what else I should be considering?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't be looking past a GranTurismo Sport to be honest:

The hardest decision is which transmission to choose.

As the most modern car it probably makes more sense but I have owned a few mazzas in the past so the marque has lost its novelty to a certain extent. Certainly the Granturismo is the sensible choice which says something about the alternatives....

Thanks ZX.
This is what my head says too-would prefer the ZF. I know the MC shift is good but I hated the cambiocorsa transmission in my coupe so kind of wanted to avoid the MC.

I do though have a Ferrari sized itch and an AM one too, so its hard!

I had a DB9 & changed to a GT Sportline it was head & shoulders the better car the AM looked good but the boot was useless & in truth it was only a two seater, where as with the GT meant I could carry the family & gear.

It amazed me they were the same size (I had both while I was waiting for a buyer for the AM) but the Aston was so compromised.

The Ferrari is one I haven't owned, my ideal car is an FF but they're well out of my budget, I have a friend with one I have driven it on a number of occasions & it's epic.

The California on the other hand is a less practical GT.

Get the Ferrari, might be your last chance to bag a V12 for something that's not silly money!

I'd also be looking at the Maserati Granturismo in that price bracket. Beautiful car!

My only gripe is I'm not a fan of the front of the mid-life facelift. Looks like a moustache or smile which takes away from the rest of the aggressive styling. Looks wise, I may be in the minority, but I significantly prefer the styling of the final cars (very late 2017 onwards). Removes the tache, and angles the front grille making it a bit less of a guppy. The improved, though still archaic infotainment is also a bonus. The price jump is substantial to those final cars.

I'd looked at one, in the stunning but rare, Magma Red just before prices went insane. £60k, 2018 plate, <10k miles, from an authorised dealer. Eventually it sold after they bumped up the price to c. £72k!! Psychologically, I just can't justify >£60k now for a final facelift car, especially as they are continuing to get older and further out of warranty (I'm useless with a spanner).

Best of luck in the search, and if you do not mind the mid-life version, there are still decent deals to be had.

Thanks everyone for their opinions.

I think the GT Sport looks wonderful in Rosso Trionfale

I'd probably pull the trigger now had I not owned a Maserati V8 before and have a Ghibli V6 S as a daily (soon to go)

The Rapide I've lusted after for its elegant lines (and 4 proper seats). Plus its a V12. These two have been driven but history is full.

I'm in the camp that loves the 612's lines. It looks what it is- a front engined Ferrari 2+2 GT. This one has good history and I have an independent that knows his way around this and all the cars above.

I agree ZX the FF is epic. Out of my league -cheapest is £80k £20k cheaper than the next one. Quite a few come with ceramic brakes would have me petrified at MoT time!

The Cali is another car I like but unusable rear seats- a lot spec them as a parcel shelf.
This is a great colour and love the contrasting roof.
