Hi all

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago “more practical M140i”. A friend had a golf and 2 kids, whom always speaks highly. So we have just purchased a 2019 Golf GTI PP. it’s an amazing car but part of the decision was that I’d get something for the dog/building work/mountain bike as a second car.

This leaves me with a budget of £10k to £15k. Requirements: mountain bike duty // DIY stuff // large dog carrying and also occasionally take a baby seat.

Things I am considering:

- Defender
- Range Rover Classic
- Transit Custom
-VW transporter

Anything else? I’m really not wedded to anything in terms of body type, fuel economy, engine, gear box. As long as it’s interesting I’m happy.

Thanks ahead of time for the suggestions.

I get your point, and it’s fair.

I do like that GL63. Any big ticket problems on those? I’m also half tempted to get something for like 6/7k that needs work…

No big ticket issues it's pretty dependable, now if you want to reduce the budget there's the (lower road tax on this one to) ML500:

Or there's the V8 diesel ML420:

There's also the 4.6/4.8is X5's they have a few inherent issues but most should've been sorted by now:

There was a Readers Car thread on one of the above which may prove a good read if you're considering one.

Given its a second vehicle, I'd be go down a specific route, whichever takes your fancy

-a proper tip run/utility car like a crv or rav 4 for up to say £4k
-a range rover for circa 10k (leaving 5k to fixit!!)
-something that will hold its money, like a defender or vw transporter
