Father in law had an Alhambra, nice useful car but as said with 7 seats in place the boot is useless.

Thinking maybe get a divider in the boot, but the Merc GL is an option now, despite there not being many of them for sale.
I'd say that a divider is your best option. Can't think of any 7 seater car that has a particularly big boot with the third row seats in use, but most of the bigger SUVs and MPVs have a huge load area with those seats removed or folded flat.

Segregate mutts from suitcases and humans with a suitable divider/cage type thing and job's a good one, plus it's also much safer to have the dogs contained in some sort of enclosure anyway. Wouldn't fancy having 45kg of animal launched through the cabin in a crash.

It sounds like the Mercedes GL is the answer.

GL320cdi I'd say the 420cdi is better suited engine wise

A friend had one of these in lease a GL350 IIRC. 7 seats up the boot wasn’t big. At a guess it would be Polo sized.

Guardsman do good guards and longitudinal dividers.

Not convinced you'll get 2 large dogs comfortably on one side of a divider though.

My sister does it with 2 whippets in a Superb estate and even that looks tight.

I do it with 1 Labrador in a Leon estate and I don't think 2 would have enough room.

They used to curl up nicely in my MK1 Leon boot, They fit nicely in the SAAB estate boot but there's no room for anything else.

I'll have a look at Guardsman.

If that can be fitted 30/70 split that might be the answer!

It looks like it can be fitted at any position you like.

But if it's not central it could be pushed over from the lesser side as it relies on pressure top & bottom.

Following this thread, was about to post my own similar.
Existing Volvo 940 Estate takes 2 dogs in the back, in cages, son on rear seat with holiday stuff beside him, me and wife in front. Wife wants to replace my trusty old Volvo (still looks tidy with 200K miles and goes well) with "something more modern".
Favourite in the race at the moment is the Galaxy, we don't need the third row and I assume they come out. My choice is the VW Transporter T5/6 which she says is "too much like a van".
Things like the Volvo XC60/70/90 wont take two cages in the rear. Ditto Disco/RR etc.

Edit: as far as I can tell, many Galaxys are diesel and/or auto which I don't want, the Alhambra are all diesel and the Sharan (very similar) are regularly converted for wheelchair access).

Would you need the cages in the XC90? the boot area is a crash safety cell due to the 6th and 7th seat being in there.

I had a 2014 Galaxy. The rearmost seats don't come out, but they do fold down completely, making a flat boot floor, about the same size as a Skoda Superb estate. Not sure about the earlier model.

Keeps them contained, stops them flying forward and they feel more secure not being thrown around the rear so much, sort of a comfort area.

Ah yeh I get you.

Off to look at the 2011 XC90 today, as said previously will probably just get a divider and keep the 6/7th seat down. Nice to have them though.
