Why compromise on fun for the sake of a couple of extra doors? Cars like the Megane are fantastic to drive on track and fantastic to drive on the road. Yes they don't have the soft touch plastics of other cars but so what.
Because different people have different priorities. If being fun to drive was all that mattered we'd all be driving an Elise.

As said, plenty of reviews suggest that while the Renault is the better track car the Focus makes more sense on the road. So again it depends how you'll use it.

The Megane is a more fun road car than the Focus or GTI. It can fit in as many passengers and has a decent size boot.

How does a Focus make more sense?

Thing is, that's your opinion and not everyone will agree with it. If they did nobody would buy a Focus or a Golf but as far as I know they sold pretty well.

I have a 3dr hot hatch and also a 6yr old child. Yes we can all fit in my car but it just isn't as practical and easy to use as a 5dr. Just about all manufacturers including Renault have come to the conclusion that most people do want the extra doors which is why a 3dr hot Megane is no longer on sale.

I just find it odd that a petrol head would choose a car that isn't as fun as one that they could choose.

3 door cars have been dropped by manufacturers to save them money.

Oh almighty god of driving and gate keeper of what makes a petrol head please provide more words of wisdom. (Complete sarcasm)

Op both cars are brilliant pick whichever you prefer. I've drove them all and the 308GTI is my favourite of that generation of hot hatches. The differences are tiny and really its just personal preference.
