Used MPV or maybe Small estate
Discussion
We took a look at hatchbacks but unfortunately they didn't have either the low boot height or room for what is now 3 dogs. Mainly 2 dogs but sometimes 3 when on holiday.
So we are looking for an MPV maybe small estate which has good avg MPG 40+ , Low boot height etc Totally happy to consider a diesel or petrol
We went to see a 1.9tdi touran 2005 and it looked ideal but the one we saw was a bit ropey and mega miles 145k
So ..views on the following Diesel or Petrol ( good mpg please )
Ford C-Max
Mazda 5
Peugeot 208/308 SW
Seat Altea
Toyota Verso
Vauxhall Zafira
VW Touran
We have adjusted the budget to £2-3500 k
Thanks a lot

I think you'll want a diesel, because you can't get a hybrid for that money and straight petrol engines will be quite a lot thirstier esp with cars of this size.
Consider also the Citroen Berlingo, lots of dog owners and car journalists love them. The fact that the first gen (up to 2008) were based on the legendary Peugeot 306 underneath probably helps.
I hired a diesel C-Max for a weekend in Monaco, really liked it, torquey diesel, classic Parry-Jones top-notch chassis, comfortable and usefully flexible seating layout. The only annoyance was a quirk of the engine mapping that made it really hard to do a hill start - too little throttle and it'd stall as the engine wasn't on boost and did nothing, too much and you'd lurch forwards. But overall a really good car.
Zafiras drive ok, but probably not worth it unless you need 7 seats I guess, AFAIK 7 seaters generally command a premium as some families need them.
With diesels of this age be aware some have DPFs from Euro 4 / c. 2005, if you buy something with a DPF then need to look into any common issues with that model, I think some are more satisfactory than others. Also be aware none will be ULEZ compliant, if that affects you.

The Mazda5 is the pick at this price point:

Thanks
The reason we were looking at a touran is that my young daughter will be sharing the car and she found the touran to be ok in size. Very briefly we saw a Mazda5 and S-max and she thought they looked much bigger so didn't have the confidence to drive them ?
The Mazda5 is 10cm longer but 5cm narrower than a Touran. The reason we were looking at a touran is that my young daughter will be sharing the car and she found the touran to be ok in size.
