With prices of used cars being quite high, I’m thinking of pricing a car I’m going to sell for the WBAC valuation plus 10%

This will put my car at lower than anything equivalent on auto trader but will achieve more than a straight trade in

Win:win??

Sounds fine. If anything you could go a little higher, depending on condition etc of the car; certainly being about equal with the lower end of what else equivalent is advertised isn't a bad place to be, as a balance of quick sale vs maximising return.

You don't want to under-price a car, will just end up being hassle with hundreds of messages etc. So lower end of the market is fine.

Whatever price you ask, the first few responses will likely be traders chancing their luck and trying to talk you into letting it go for peanuts - just ignore and wait for a genuine buyer.

Most private buyers will want to negotiate, irrespective of how keenly priced it is, therefore make sure your advertised price allows for this.

Depends on the price and age of the car.

Adding 10% to the offer WBAC made on our 1-year-old defender would have put it at or above dealer retail pricing at the time.

All good points raised, thanks.

It’s a 6 year old premium SUV, nothing offensive about it, has right spec, colour, history, mileage - too good to just chop it in, it took me ages to find the right one

Assuming you'd be able to price it for 10% above WBAC prices, is it worth the hassle of having to deal with all the emails and phone calls to filter out time wasters etc, then to potentially offer a discount to sell it on the spot.

I'd go dead in the middle of wbac offer and dealer forecourt price. A private buyer will always want to haggle down a bit.
