Scruffy Super V8 complete with EML on, low on oil and brake pad warning light. MoT history not too bad though.

Where will it end (BCA Saturday)? CAP clean is £3,200

I've got a £100 proxy bid on that so I can see where it lands. X350/X358 values are all over the place but that's got to be as undesireable as a supercharged one gets.

I used to think that rouched leather was as gauche as a car interior could get, but the "as many diamonds as you can fit plz" quilting that is de rigeur in rich chav chariots now really has recalibrated my expectations of how tasteless car interiors can be.

Apologies if this has been posted but can someone talk me out of this? 57 plate 750i with decently low mileage.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175489382317?mkcid=16&a...

Looks clean, "full" service history is actually partial but MOT history seems ok (are oil leaks common on these?). A work colleague has recently bought a s55 for barge money and I'm itching to get involved too!!
I owned an 03 745i and adored it.

Bork factor is unreal though.
The E65 is absolute death at trade auction, particularly the V8s. For good reason.

I think my favourite bit of quality German engineering is how they're known for tearing the hydraulic ARB mounts clean off the subframe. That or the 10 million places they leak oil and coolant. Or the timing gear issues perhaps? So hard to pick.
Plus the seats on that one have gone all blurry. Means it's terminal.

But Stevo, I was looking at 550i and 750i until I started looking into common failure points. They're great until they aren't. Get a straight six BMW if you want a less stressful existence.

Cheap too, although the seller prefers flashing the occasional glimpse of ankle to the full-Monty of info straight-up. Someone here needs to buy that. It won't be me as I have its uglier spiritual successor on order.

Exactly the same with me... The N62 in these worried me too much; couldn't find any that had the necessary work done etc..

That's why I ended up with the E39 I've got as at least I know that platform inside out

Noted on the 750i potential to be a money black hole ("money pit" doesn't seem to be sufficient if I read between the not so subtle lines). Thank you all for saving me from a potentially ruinous experience.

I treat these things as I do when I'm house hunting with Mrs-C ... you just need to translate:

Just needs decorating = New kitchen and Bathroom and maybe just move a wall or two
A bit of a project = Money Pit that will take at least a year
Doer Upper = Probably best to knock it down and start again. Consider asking Kevin McCloud round to roll his eyes.

So BMW 750i = withdraw your life savings and set alight in a field. It will be quicker and less distressing. Alternatively buy it and let us all enjoy the journey biggrin

I don't mind the seats TBH.

My X350-finger-on-the-pulse-of-market is weak currently but I can't see that going over £2,000. If it does then it still shows the market is on acid.

I had a 645, it was the longest I’ve owned a car. Anything else would have been out the door in under 6 months, as it was I kept it 4.5 years.

Oil leaks, vanos issues, coolant leaks, oil leaks, gearbox oil leaks, valve stems, oil leaks, some weird electrical issues.

Great when it worked though.

Everyone’s given you the general gist, but I’ll do you some specifics on mine. 5 years ago it was approx. £3k for curing a misfire & a new amp. Two years ago it was approx. £3k for a complete cooling system refresh. Last year it was approx £3k for valve-stem oil seals. Right now, it’s with the man (the excellent Darren Wood) as the rear airbags gave up the ghost. They’re approx £1500+vat each. And that’s if you can get hold of them (no-one’s got stock) - we’ve had to go aftermarket (cheaper, admittedly). The one you linked has the 20” wheels, so you’re at £1k for a set of tyres.

If therefore, you can afford an additional upkeep of (say) £2500/year in addition to the insurance/fuel/RFL/service items, then an E65 can be justified. (it’s still financial madness).

For that, you get something that’s not particularly good looking, (I think the majority would agree), with dated interior technology, where even the youngest example is >14yr old. There’s a very good reason these things were cheap before covid kicked off.

Don’t get me wrong though, when it’s working, it’s a really nice way to do big distances, for 4 people & luggage. It remains the car most resistant to aquaplaning I’ve ever experienced, and it was so very, very obviously designed for the outside lane of the Autobahn, that is undoubtedly it’s natural habitat.

Anyway - I didn’t particularly break silence/lurking just to comment on ropy old BMW, I also got SL1 through it’s MOT today - clean pass (again) is always nice. But it brought home a point. 550 miles between MOT. The 7series won’t be far off that either. I really, really don’t need a car (at all) these days, I need to find a job that has some sort of commuting again, I’ve had enough of WFH.

Well, today we have this Japanese barge(hashike). It has only a little problem and it seems to have been imported not so long ago. The underbody is clean and straight piped? The Japanese cars are very reliable until they are not. Also the parts are more expensive as there are not many aftermarket options available.

The crown without the crown.

I reckon it'll end up at about £5K, very desirable the supercharged ones. Although, I may be biased (though mine is a lowly 3.0 with no forced anything... sob!) I await the results being posted.

Sorry for interrupting your seat belt conversation. It is very important I know.

I found this Friday(just a few hours to go until then) special of a LS600h I wanted to share. Top of the range it seems as well.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304600306595

The best bit it says that it had travelled only 83k miles. Looking at that seat it is hard to believe unless it was used as a van?? The mot history suggests that it was imported not so long ago.

TLex is probably biting his nails off.
(just kidding)
Oh, and the seat belts seem to be retracting just fine. Someone with the seat belt fetish should just buy it!
I always thought Lexus were supposed to wear their miles well? As you say it looks as though it has been used as a builders van, even the back seats look knackered unless it was used as an airport car/taxiconfused

Similar miles and age to my LS460 and the seats on mine look virtually new... Combined with them not explaining it's a relatively recent Japanese import (energy monitor screen picture), I'm wondering if something is not what it seems on this...

ETA on one of the back seat pics you can see a code scanner just there on the seat... I know it's no guarantee either way but just makes me think they've cleared codes and lights.
