Nice car, engine was in the griffin too...

interestingly this is a unique engine, in that the turbo charger spools up off of three cylinders and feeds the six cylinders. The turbo is also cast into the exhaust manifold.

all stems from saab wanting to have every model turbo charged. engine produced circa 200 hp. and wasnt rocket ship fast,.
Impressive SAAB beardage.

Well if you're prepared to splash 3x the cost of a nice diesel one, you can have the hen's teeth 3.0 V6.

43k miles too. Must admit it's very tempting, I think you could run that for modest miles and not lose much money in the next few years.
Won't the stereo be in Japanese?

Pfft, like this thread stays on topic!

Which is a point, my 2 ton trolley jack is a little worse for wear, what's a thread fave replacement?

And if you want a visual deterrent, is it a stoplock or one of the bar things? Milenco I think they are.

Everyone should join the Halfords motoring club too, free, money off stuff, and a £10 voucher included when you spend £20. They don't call him Martin "Macron" Lewis for nothing you know.

New (old) barge has berthed!

Still have the E63 but saw this for lower end thread budget and couldn’t resist as I do love a big proper Volvo. It’s the 2.5T and auto so suitably wafty. Ride and handling both very ‘comfortable’. Wearing its 117k honestly with some battle scars but everything present and correct. Love it.

Brilliant, really undervalued and underappreciated cars these. I think they are a lovely looking car too.

Thanks, and to others, for the positive comments. It’s a great big bus and tremendous VFM. Stereo working a treat too btw… wink

My W124 260E is in dire need of a new exhaust and has been for some time now. My man can't source the parts at a reasonable price and suggested I call the local specialist exhaust fabricator. They quoted £1,200 - £1,500! If the car was a keeper I'd maybe live with that, but I don't use the car and was thinking to move it on, but that's not going to be easy if, as I assume, it fails its MOT for the exhaust.

eBay search suggests that carexhaust_eu will send me a full system for £185 delivered, which is about a third of what I thought a cheap alternative should be. Is this an obvious scam or fitting disaster waiting to happen, or will it simply be an exhaust that does the job but rots in 5 years?

In addition to the stereo, whilst it looks fab and in ace condition, pics 17 and 18 would suggest a massively faded dash from what appears to be the original colour that is hidden by the door shuts.

It's nice and where would you find another one? But it's a lot of money imo. £18k puts you into a very different world of possibilities compared to the usual thread fodder.

Stereo needs some faffing with Catia, although persuading a dealer to do it might be a bit of a faff.

Dash is odd as the whole interior looks like the right shade (dash/wheel/seats/headlining etc all match), but the end of the panel is definitely wrong where it's been without UV exposure...

Agreed, but if you wanted a C6 to keep forever amongst a fleet, I feel like that might be the one.

A very rare thing indeed. I cannot recall the last time I saw one for sale.

There was another popped up a couple of months ago at a Citroen dealer for £15k, I think it was about 80k miles.

A quick browse of Autodoc shows options. It's worth a look but if you don't intend to keep it then I'd go with the cheapy.

Regarding the barge you made me buy and that I’m spending money on instead of driving:

EBay parts seller has asked for my VIN, duly provided, and now wants my engine number. Why? To confirm fitment, because it would be a non return item otherwise. (Sounds a bit like BS to me).

Can they use the numbers for nefarious purposes? Assume my identity, frame me for espionage related murders etc?

Thank you, I’m fine. I will send them the engine model number, which I assume is generic and not specific to my car. I’m certainly not lifting the bonnet.

Owned 2 9-5 3.0v6t - both Griffin saloons.

Smokey engine on startup probably turbo - and it's a mega expensive and rare item now.
They are a pain to source as the turbo is within the exhaust manifold. Circa £1600 iirc from the bill i had (got it reconditioned, couldn't find a replacement). Other engine parts also not easy to find- my saab specialist was sourcing Holden parts from australia at one point as GM used the same engine in cars over there.

The engine is smooth, bassy and nicely V6 vocal, but not in any way fast. 2.3 aero would leave it for dust.

So for me, no record of turbo replacement = walk away.

Engine number is on the V5 if that's less faff.

The first six digits will suffice to verify the version of a particular engine - M119 982 for example - if you want to be cautious.
