This is exactly the same colour combo as mine and for the same purchase price! Think about the adventures you can have -- it even has the powered tailgate, which (I think) means the convenience of the easi-fix kit, too.
That looks a decent buy with faults declared- should be fairly easy fixes.

Are they really euro 3 though? I thought they were euro 4. I am looking around for a Bristol ULEZ compliant barge at the moment and this wouldn’t qualify
Mine (yours!) is definitely Euro 4. I am sure in the build sheet it mentions something about Euro 4 pollution control equipment.

This one though- it is a little older. Maybe it is Euro 3. A shame if so.
There's a fair few petrol Mercs (including mine and probably BMWs etc. too) from the early 2000s that are technically Euro 3, but are ULEZ compliant. I gather that the ULEZ schemes pick up the official test data (iirc also found on the V5 and Certificate of Conformity) and if it (mostly the NOx) is below the Euro 4 limit then it passes. If you type the reg into a ULEZ checker it'll tell you.

That's true, but the Bristol/Birmingham CAZ are not so generous sadly and require Euro 4.

Yes, it's diseasel. No, I'm not sorry.

This power unit and HP18 4-speed auto actually suits the car very well indeed. I know, I had one. This looks like a Bosch mechanical injection version and as such can be run on all sorts rather than just pump diesel. 40+ mpg all day from this.

A lesser-known secret is that this short-lived period of the XM (the so-called mk 1.5 era) seem to be the least problematic, and most structurally sound (ie corrosion resistance).

I don't know why the seller is banging on about the "rare" double window. I think all UK-spec XM had these. I've got two in storage.

That's not what I've found by putting the reg number for my 53-plate 3.2 petrol Euro3 Merc into https://www.bristol.gov.uk/streets-travel/bristol-...

Some shrewd barge investments required to top up the pension.
Indeed. I have already allocated expenditure to the E39 and CL and I am keeping my eyes open for a R129 500

Had one of those myself many moons ago, cracking cars when they're running ok. And speaking of super dooper vending machines, cop an eyeful of this beauty spotted in Frenchland. Had just indulged in a massive lunch or I'd have tried it out, maybe next time

What's a rear strut fitted nowadays? 800-ish? ABS light could be a simple sensor or reluctor ring. Recent MoT history is OK
I replaced both mine in January 2021 at 162k. They were £444+vat each and labour for 5.5 hours to "lower rear subframe and replace, refit subframe and set ride heights". Skimping on the OEM units on a full airmatic system means that one foregoes the firmness adjustment and ride height of the full airmatic system, so don't bother.

As Stegel, I didn't know you had/have an S211. Those strut prices aren't too bad considering

I would have killed for one of those last night at 1.30am.

I had an XM 2.5 tdi manual estate, brilliant, cavernous, quick and comfy. 335k miles on it!

I tend not to comment much, but this is by far my favourite thread on PH, and have been reading avidly for the past five years, even done two intra-thread deals.

Seems a shame the sudden draconian measures in terms of moderation, are rather heavy-handed and not needed IMO, especially when you read the vitriol on some of the other PH threads which go unnoticed, I echo the other posters that this is by far the most chipper, light-hearted thread that you can get.

Over time when having a bit of a crap period, this thread has made me laugh out loud and is truly a welcome distraction when life gets a bit hard-going.

Anyways, in barge news not much to report, been pressing my L322 TDV8 into daily service and has been utterly reliable apart from the rearview mirror falling off (even my specialist doesn't know how to reaffix as too heavy so have left it with him) and white smoke from the exhaust which I thought may have been the turbos on the way out (rather common on these) but was just a split intercooler hose. Such a nice car to travel in, done many airport runs of late due to travelling abroad for work and it has been a great cosseting ride, never feel any aches when you get out. Will always have one now. Hopefully, the L405's start to fall into a lower price bracket now the new RR has been released.

So...... I made it by 1:40pm. Google said driving time was 9:35. Turns out 7:57 was adequate.

A certain fast section of the run has caused some cosmetic damage to the car though! Some paint was obviously beginning to peel, and with the wind resistance being rather high when doing those speeds it's peeled a fair chunk of paint away! I've emailed the chap who did the work to the OSF wing and will see what he says! Can't see it being too expensive, just needs sanding back, prepping and spraying!

Slovenian vignette? Don't stick it on the screen as instructed, it proved to be one of the most difficult things to remove from a screen ever. It needed a fresh Stanley knife blade, much scraping and WD40. It sort of etched itself into the glass.
It was an Austrian vignette, and I've stuck it on. The Slovenian is an e-vignette so presumably hovers in the ether somewhere.

In cars like that, sold at the prices the manufacturers ask, to see the same sort of grotty compromises necessary to sell half a million miserable scrabbling FWD stboxes a year irks me, particularly when their marketing merrily pedals such hopeless lies about their engineering integrity and uncompromising approach to clueless fkwit consumers who lap it up and encourage yet more grotty compromises at every level until you end up with the likes of the W223 S Class, and there is nothing left for a non fkwit to aspire to one day part with no more than 5,000 shiny one pound coins to be the 7th keeper of.

This is a terrible time to be a car enthusiast, although the absolute swarms of super and hypercars suggest it's a fine time to be an automotive peacock.
Thats exactly how I see it. Sad times.
