That does look wonderful, I know, I know, enormous borkage potential.
Lovely colour but I think the wheels aren't doing it any favours.
I don't think those 'handed' wheels look any good if the ones on the opposite side are handed in the same direction, iyswim, so they look like they're going backwards. It may be just me, thinking about it...

I agree, same with some tyre tread patterns too, Ultra Sessanta for example.

I understand this is not very barge-esque, but I've temporarily ruined my LS460.

I thought it was a little too quiet and I was looking for a bit more V8 rumble, nothing crazy but something along the lines of what you'd hear from a Bentley V8 or Maserati Quattroporte.

My first port of call was to remove the mufflers (and add some stainless steel pipes) to see how that sounds. Unfortunately it has gone a way too TVR or 1960s Mustang.

The next step is to find a resonator which will be suitable to mute the sound but keep the underlying nice tone of the V8.

I reckon that sounds pretty good from that short clip.

It does sound great, but it's too loud and obnoxious for what I'm looking for in daily use unfortunately.

Unfortunately I'm just getting up to leave Aviemore and start the 572 mile drive home! I only realised yesterday it's now half term so anticipate some pretty miserable traffic nearer home!
Is the Queen still at Balmoral?
If so, perhaps you could pop in, and ask if she would like a lift back down to London for the Jubilee celebration.

My other ridiculous thought is - Be glad that you are not doing the journey in a Skoda Roomster smile

Perhaps a thread side-bar, the most miles you have covered in the least suitable car?

At least you’ll be sitting in something nice and comfortable.
Could be worse, you could be heading south on an oversubscribed train, sharing a carriage with a load of young guys in high spirits. Obligatory loud but tinny music is pumping out of a phone.

Just had a nice history lesson, though as we pulled into Lockerbie.

“Lockerbie? That they fkin’ place where tha plane fell doon?”
“Aye, World War Two ah hink.”

At least I’ll be in something nice and comfortable for the return journey.

I get this. I do love a good V8 sound and have a 460ci in my Lincoln I’ve considered taking some mufflers out of, as I did with my old 928. But it would not suit the car.

Not my spot, but I thought some on here might like it as it's not so common to see barges of this age still being used as intended. This was recently driven from Colorado, USA to Merida, Mexico, a distance of around 2500 miles.

Fantastic!

I drove past there several months later, could still smell it and the A74 and banking was still charred.

Was that perhaps the origin of the focus on ride-quality!?

As this is a car thread, it was a brown Ford Cortini MK V with velour interior.

Where does one find these treasures?
So I started off looking at goo-net-exchange.com which is a pseudo-autotrader; found a few I liked the look of; then went to JDM Auctionwatch and registered.

Once you do that you get access to their live japanese auction database, and cars on sale with dealers too.

I bid on this one at auction, and Patrick (top bloke) at JDM has contacts at the auction that will inspect the car ahead of bidding.

This one didn't achieve its reserve, but then came up for fixed price two days later. I sent 75% of the total for the car, import duty and the JDM fee, with the remaining 25% due just before it lands.

On the basis that VAT and duty are 30%, less the JDM fee and shipping, then this must have been £3500....
