The Brit and the Germans are lovely, the yanks are somewhat less appealing.
Just close your eyes and think of the sausage dog.

Weekend perusal, some with mild Friday budget creep...

An S500 in a great colour.

I love that, great colour and would be about as swooshy as they come.
I’d imagine the potential for life altering bork would be fairly high though?

Only one way to find out, right? 14k and over 5 years between services not ideal, mind!

My wife says it looks like an old man’s car. It makes me like it more!

Agreed Ross. The alloys are awful too IMHO. Love the big S but I’d pass on this one I think.

If a Civic is your ideal car for 350 days of the year, I'd struggle to see the logic for changing it simply for holiday use.

Threadists may recall that I'm an enthusiastic road-tripper but a successful trip is about the route, the destination and the adventure rather than the metal box you're in. Changing a car simply for road trips would be a mistake in my view.
Bannock mentioned that they might do another road trip next year and assuming the same load (teenager is only going to get larger), it would be prudent to get a torque-laden barge which can make covering ground far more relaxing. Holidays are supposed to be enjoyable for all and knocking oneself senseless revving the tits off a car in third will be tiring (as stated).
I'd counter that a road trip with 4 people will be compromised anyway. Best send them by air and rejoice in the solitude. (Or use the opportunity to travel with a gorgeous chick that isn't yours whilst the wife is distracted.)
^ Definitely this.

Yes, as a solo traveller I enjoy the 'freedom' of choosing where and when with little planning other than a bed for the night.

Agreed. I will add that road trips are more fun with an engaging companion though, romantic attachment or not. Just brings it to life a bit more I think.

Another suggestion for barge trips to France (so not Bannock, obvs):

Meet, Chateau le Barge hehe
I couldn't not stay here when passing and seeking accommodation.

My mate still has the branded bathmat in his guest bathroom...

ETA: The URL above doesn't get through the swear filter, see main pic here from many years ago.

I have no idea why, because it ticks no boxes and doesn't suit either our lifestyle or our desire for reasonable economy in fuel and repairs..........
but I feel a real need to own one of those while I still have a licence. They just scream relaxed comfort and style to me.

I shall have to presuade Erin Dawes that if I sell the TVR and the Saab estate it would make a sensible purchase.
We will still have a Nisan X Trail for all the rubbish shifting, dog, towing and utility jobs.
And both dogs are over 12 years old, so sadly we won't need a dog-mobile too much longer.

Well done for making the jump and inspiring me.

I ran an R129 500 for 5 years, longest I've kept any car in 34 years driving and was a delight (had the pano roof which made a great winter coupe). It was as you say very relaxed motoring and in V8 guise no slouch. The only downside is the removable hard top is comically heavy which is fine if you have the space for a crane (yes you could buy a specialist crane) but not if you parked in the street and had to carry it 50 yds and through the house to the shed.

Congratulations tobinen - a lot of love for an R129 and agree it’s one of those cars you just want to own and experience while you still can for reasonable money. Enjoy!
