Selling to Motorway, Carwow etc.

I am selling my laddies Corsa we have it with Carwow and Motorway.
As we all know second hand prices are a bit mental,and I want to maximise the price.
I agreed a minimum price with Carwow and they have sent me an invoice for the sale.,as they have a confirmed buyer.
The car has been up for sale for a day, has anyone any experience of offers rising significantly over the period of a week.
I have tried to be as transparent as possible noting the 3 scuffed alloys and 1 touch up on the bumper.
When the driver arrives to collect do they try to knock you down like WeBuy? Or is it a straight transaction?
I appreciate all transactions will be different but looking for some real world experiences.

I sold two cars last summer
The first with Arnold Clark, a Ford Edge.
They offered me £22k and after a week up it by £500 and then again another week later so £23k in the end.
They did knock a bit off for something but then added more back on for something else so it was very fair and I walked away with £22900.
The second was my BMW i3S sold to We Buy Any Car.
They offered £21,500 and again they upped their offer and I ended up with £22500.
I've not used hte ones you've mentioned.

Been on the phone 4 times with the same questions with "just one more thing" added at the end,delaying things by a day at a time.They could have asked for all the stuff the first time!

Cazoo have just offered £300 more than anyone else, the catch is the car has to be finance free.
Motorway and Car Wow will pay off the finance and pay you the difference.
I could pay the finance and go to Cazoo but they are not obliged to buy the car and their appraisal procedure seems a bit vague.

Well 4 days in and still no listing on Motorway, they are still asking for the same stuff they already had, so binned them.
Carwow, I was called by an aggressive car buyer demanding to know why I hadn't replied to his offer, not a pleasant experience!
I had blocked his email as I thought it was spam it came from a company called Wizzle.
I had not signed up to Wizzle so trashed the email, turns out Wizzle is CarWow.
A harsh learning experience for me, anyway puled the car from all sites and booked in to Cazoo.
If I was doing it again I would start with Cazoo.
Carwow and Motorway have excellent reviews but not for me from what I have experienced.

If I was doing it again I would start with Cazoo.

Took detailed photos, uploaded and got offers over 2-3 days.
accepted top offer then the dealer called me asked a few questions and sent his driver.
car inspected on my drive, no issues. finance cleared and difference transferred to me.
one the day it took maybe 30 minutes for inspection and transfers but as motorway is autotrader in reverse i guess your experience will vary based on the buyer.

My experience somewhat mirrors yours. Motorway were hopeless. Rude and didn’t seem to understand that their user portal is awkward and unintuitive. Wizzle was easy but only attracted low balling jokers. Carwow, I was called by an aggressive car buyer demanding to know why I hadn't replied to his offer, not a pleasant experience!

WBAC was simple, straightforward and gave me the best price by far. Cazoo, had I known at the time, may have been even higher.

Had a similar experience with motorway when selling my wife's Countryman SD a couple of years back. Totally painless, unlike WBAC who tried the usual lowball rubbish once the car was in front of them. I assume the assessors get a cut of anything they manage to knock off the vehicles they eventually buy. Took detailed photos, uploaded and got offers over 2-3 days.

Just for balance, I used motorway a couple of weeks ago to sell my car. Uploaded all the photos they asked for then had a further call asking for pictures of service history. Car went into their sale a couple of days later and sold above their estimate.
They then asked me for my bank details and pictures of the V5. A few days later people from the main dealer that were buying it turned up and looked the car over and then transferred me the money. The time from them saying we'll take it to the money being in my account was about 45 minutes and the car stayed on the drive and keys in my hand while I was refreshing my account waiting for the money to arrive.
I would 100% use them again.
They then asked me for my bank details and pictures of the V5. A few days later people from the main dealer that were buying it turned up and looked the car over and then transferred me the money. The time from them saying we'll take it to the money being in my account was about 45 minutes and the car stayed on the drive and keys in my hand while I was refreshing my account waiting for the money to arrive.

I understand why some people get fed up of motorway.
The whole using their web app to take pictures of everything is a bit awkward and they do ask a lot of questions, the answers to which are in the picture they ask for.
Motorway themselves were the biggest issue with the process. Primarily the issue was they asked me to set a price that offers would be accepted at and its really confusing with them saying offers above that will be accepted. They told me where they think that value should have been and that going higher/lower would put off buyers. That figure is visible to the dealer so I expected not to be bidded above it. I didn't want a bid to be "accepted" when I was pursuing other sales avenues. They didn't in my experience make it clear that them accepting the offer didn't mean they'd accepted a sale on your behalf.
Seems far simpler for them to just provide the offers, get rid of the whole acceptance and expected price piece.
Once i had that clear in my head it that it was going to form any contract it was easy and i got nearly £2k more than I'd set as the value i wanted to achieve which was the wbac price.
I did also try carwow/wizzle which was much simpler but the offers were much lower than via motorway.

I think it's safe to say all of these companies have pro's and cons.
The aggressive Carbuyer implied I had entered into a contract, when I asked him " are you telling me I have entered into a legally binding contract compelling me to sell my car to you" he immediately backtracked waffling on about a gentlemen's agreement and all the work he had done.
Like, look at a list and send an email!! The boy must be shattered when he gets home!!
What I would say is that I was not prepared for the full on verbal assault and I could see some people thinking that they had entered into an agreement.
CarWow asked if I wanted to lodge a complaint but life's too short to get into that and pretty pointless.
Be aware the same aggressive Carbuyer buys from Motorway as well.

Easy as anything, but slow with communication and took ages to get through on the phone to make my advert go live.
The guy that collected it was great albeit a bit late, but did his checks and took the car
The only issue I had was with the receiving dealer. It took them 10 days to do the paperwork and because I sold it late in the month, it went over into the next so I had to pay an extra month of VED. When I questioned the dealer they basically told me to F Off

All retail equivalents are going for £32k plus whereas cazoo are offering £21k and wbac £25k!
There’s definitely a market for these but because it isn’t mass market I don’t want to be forced into underselling the car

I have just been to Cazoo,got the full £7300 as promised by them in and out in 10 minutes.
For me personally the selling experience was fantastic and fuss free.
Obviously they have their own criteria on buying cars,that as seen above doesn't work for everyone,but for me they will always be my first port of call.
Compare n contrast with WBAC where your arguing about a tiny blemish on the paintwork of a 12 year old car with 142k Miles on it!
Basically a Grand more than anyone else and absolutely no hassle.
