Only concern was he kept the full V5 saying it's because the car was going into trade. Now im not so sure if that was correct?

They do this, but they shouldn’t because they don’t do the transfer online there and then. It gets done “in the office” a day or few later.

When I sold my car to WBAC (an otherwise excellent transaction) the guy explained this, so I did it online when I got home. If you don’t, you’re potentially liable for fines etc.

Make a note of the 11(?) character number and do the transfer on line as soon as you can. You should get an acknowledgement straight away.

He was correct in saying he should have the full V5 as long as he did it electronically. I always take the full V5 and do the transfer in front of the customer.
He just put it on top of the pile of paperwork he had, however today I did get an acknowledgement from the DVLA that I the car is no longer registered in my name.

I returned later in the day to ask about this, but the guy was adamant this was correct. One of their drivers had also arrived and he was driving the car away.

I guess the issue is in the meantime their driver could activate a speed camera and then you're relying on the date/time of the email from WBAC that is acknowledging the sale being before the time of the camera activation.

The WBAC guy said they are employees (I had asked if he was a franchise) and he had a target to complete the purchase of 47% of all car viewings/inspections.

The time you got the acknowledgement today was the time they entered the details into the DVLA for change of ownership to 'trade'. I do this in front of every customer and they often can check their phones and see the email immediately.

Not sure why my thread about WBAC was deleted....

But ive just put my 21 plate Mustang GT onto Motorway, and they have suggested £45K!! and set the reserve at £40K. Ford offered me £35K, and WBAC £36.7K.

Its going out for bids tomorrow, so will see, but will be absolutely shocked if it reached £40K!!

I paid £46K for it 18 months and 16K miles ago! But it is in excellent condition.

I'm about to go through the motions with this, with my 1 year old Hyundai Tucson.

WBAC currently giving the highest value at £31k, Cazoo is about £2k less.

Weirdly I tried Evans Halshaw but its giving me a figure of £314!! I would be hoping for another two zeros on the end of that to be honest! laugh

Sold my VW id.3 to WBAC on Friday afternoon - easy and painless process (price given on line was honoured after the inspection). I had prices from Motorway and the VAG dealer i am buying a replacement vehicle from and they were identical. WBAC offered £350 more (after deduction of their £75.00 fee). I received a DVLA transfer confirmation email the following morning and they are settling the outstanding finance next week. Very happy.

I have used we buy any car twice and they were decent. The key is getting a decent branch manager and it’s seamless.

Always worth checking franchise dealers too.

We've just sold my late father in laws skoda yeti and the dealer paid us £1k more than wbac suggested, (before they'd seen it and had the chance to knock it down) and that was even after taking into account some minor bodywork damage

That certainly helps - but the real issue with WBAC is that they base all their pricing offers on the premise that the car is in A1 condition (and not even 'for its age', the assumption is that its completely perfect) - so you must either present a 100% blemish free car or have declared every single defect and mark, in order to avoid offer reduction when you bring the car in.

However, I suspect if you did declare everything in great detail, they know that no-one would bring cars along. Whereas, if they make a tempting offer, people may be reluctant to turn back after they get there.

A minor thread resurrection here. We just sold our 67 Superb to Best Car Buyer today and the process couldn't have been easier. They offered a little more than WBAC (and over 3k more than another outfit), had a chat on the phone dropped the initial offer by £300 (still more than WBAC initial offer). They turned up today went throught the car with a magnifying glass and spotted a couple of issues I'd not noticed.and adjusted the price by.... £0. Money was is my account in 30minutes

Now would I have made more by selling privately? Quite possibly, probably even, but not having to deal with a bunch of spanners trying to be a poundshop Mike Brewer and a 48 hour turnaround made it worth the 'loss' (still sold for more than I paid for it having had it about 20 months so can't complain there either)

I'm curious to see what the reaction will be when we try to sell Mrs DG's SLC being as it's a little more specialised

Sold my car to motorway after been intouch with them a number of times over different issues. We'll at least i thought I had sold it .48 hrs after the sale I rang them to say that I had heard nothing from the buyer they didn't seem to show much concern. They said if you don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon we will reach out to the buyer and see what's happening well I was loosing respect after ringing the garage and they didn't really know what was going on so in the end cut my losses. ie number plate put back on to retention costing £80 having to call the garage to remove the deposit from the new car that I'd try to purchase and the worry and mither of it all not worth it . They've not even been intouch to see what's going on with the purchase absoult crap won't be going there again .

I had an excellent experience with carwow recently. They were very attentive and engaged. More so than the JLR dealer buying the car who had to be chased.

Interestingly the buying dealer sent a third party collection agent to drive the car 300 miles to their place up north. I handed the agent the keys and the full V5 document and then notified DVLA of the sale on line immediately after he left.

He didn’t use trade plates so I’m wondering how they get away with driving an untaxed car or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything, not doing the job properly if no trade plates.

Doesn't matter to you though, as long as you've done the yellow slip details.

I didn’t do anything on the actual V5 paper document (just handed it to the guy) but I immediately notified the sale to DVLA on line.

Thought I’d hijack this instead of starting a new one. Any advice please. For reasons outside of my control I am having to sell a car on finance in negative equity (roast me all you want). Auction offer received via Carwow from a main manufacturer dealer which I will accept.

I understand on collection day once inspection completed I will need to pay the negative equity difference to the buying dealer. The dealer will pay off the finance either same day or next. What, if any protective measures can I take to ensure this goes as smooth as possible? I’m thinking of insisting the finance clearing payment is made with proof provided before they take the car?

As the finance is with the car it’s in their interest to settle the finance. As long as they are a large dealer group it should be done quickly, most will do it once you have paid them.

Thanks, that’s reassuring to hear.
