I was recently in the same situation regarding needing a car for three to six months. Renting is not an option. It’s minimum £100 a day from my local Enterprise branch. And that’s for a Corsa!
What did you do in the end?

I didn’t need a family car so I bought a 2017 12,000 mile Mercedes SLC 200 from a main dealer. Figuring buying a convertible in February and selling in June will insulate me from some loss.

As mentioned on a previous thread, if you can handle an EV then https://on.to/electric-cars will essentially rent you a brand new car with public charging included from £12.50 a day. You commit a month at a time.

e-Up - £12.50 a day
ID3 - £20 a day
ID4 - £30 a day
Q4 etron - £33 a day
iPace HSE - £43 a day
etron 55 Black Edition - £43 a day

You'd have to be mental to pay what Enterprise are asking if looking to rent a car for more than a long weekend.

I’m going to do this I think, I think the costs for the id4 and above is still crazy but maybe the Hyundai Ioniq could be a good shout. I’d quite like to live with an electric car for a while to see how I get on anyway

As above though, if you're looking for a lack of long term commitment then options are limited and in many cases very expensive.

PM me if you do plan to sign up as I'll give you our referral code that will save us both £50. smile

I will do, I’ve accepted I’m going to have to take a loss but that’s ok. If I do it with this then at least I’m getting something that I wanted which is trying out an electric car in the real world for a bit. How long after ordering do you get the car?

You can check on the site. Just pop in your postcode and they give you delivery dates and available colours for each car you check.

https://on.to/electric-cars/ioniq-premium-38kwh

Some cars may show as unavailable so worth checking with them directly on the phone or livechat if that is the case. Others you can get within a few days, depends on popularity and where you are based.

ETA - unlike a rental you are limited to 1k miles per month and adding additional miles can be expensive if you need them. Just letting you know.

If you can pm me with a code that would be good. Which car did you go for? I presume you don’t have a fast charger at home so how do you have for charging? And how do they deal with wear and tear?

We've had 3 from them over the years. Started with a BMW i3 in April 2019, then a Model 3 Performance in Nov 2019 and now an etron 55 since late last year. Certainly not the cheapest way to run a car but compares very well with a 2-3 lease deal on the same car and is of course hugely flexible.

We cover 1000 miles per month but at a consistent 30 miles or so a day so do all of our charging on a 3-pin granny charger overnight. You can add 50-70 miles dependent on the car between midnight and 7am when electricity is at its cheapest that way.

Not had an issue with wear and tear with them and have handed back 2 cars so far having covered 13k in the i3 and 20k in the Tesla.

PM on its way. thumbup

I hired my mum a zoe from Onto last year, arrived clean and tidy, only a few thousand miles showing, get free charging too.

Just bear in mind I think they now charge £100 for delivery, and then another £100 for collection, so if hiring for just 2 or 3 months it can be quite expensive
