MPV or Estate for £2000

I honestly think you need to steer clear of prestige motors at this budget, OP. That BMW and the Outback are potentially ruinous in terms of running costs and repairs. You just need something basic to minimise those risks - Focus, Astra, Scenic, Japanese things like Avensis, Mazda 6 etc.
That Meriva seems worth a look. IIRC they were built at one of GM's "good" factories, and are a quality car. Have been tempted myself in the past.
P.S. the Scenic I linked to last week is still up on Autotrader. Looks like great value for what you need.
The Meriva does look at. It’s not a massive MPV either and looks good for what I need. I do like the Scenic too. I’ve never owned a French car so I can’t comment on their reliability. That Meriva seems worth a look. IIRC they were built at one of GM's "good" factories, and are a quality car. I’ve asked the seller who has the Meriva for sale. It’s only got 1 key, no paperwork from previous owners as it was bought from a family friend.

No DPF.
No Cambelt worries.
Just check suspension mounting points for rot and you’ll have miles of trouble free motoring.
It’s not exciting, but it’s a workhorse that is well screwed together.

I will have a look at those suggestions. I need to basically carry:

I’ve had a little look on Gumtree:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/vauxhall/vauxhall-omega-...
I’m possibly thinking the Omega looks a great purchase. As you don’t see them in Estate form and in that condition.

Have you even looked at the advert for that Shogun? Short MOT, issue with starting, and wants 2500? https://www.gumtree.com/p/mitsubishi/2003-mitsubis...

I know your looking for help on buying something, but have you actually gone and seen any of these cars in the flesh, or just have to trawl through on your phone day dreaming?
Every link you put up is for a different brand, model, style. If your not fussy you would have bought something by now.

I’ve been to see quite a few cars actually. As I’m not fussed on the brand or condition, but they were terrible. Even though the adverts were great. I’ve decided an estate would be the best out of the styles I’ve looked at. So I’m just trying to find one based on condition, it being well looked after and having history.

I've wondered before if this is just a p*ss take but what would be the benefit? If its not then were just going round in circles and its painful. The OP kept mentioning dad thinking it was a waste of money but i think the only thing it will ever be is a waste of everyone's time I know your looking for help on buying something, but have you actually gone and seen any of these cars in the flesh, or just have to trawl through on your phone day dreaming?

Fair enough. My Dad still thinks it’s a waste of money. I’ve actually been to view a few cars and not really liked them. I will ask if mods can delete my account. Save wasting everyone’s time.

Get on autotrader, Facebook, gumtree and just search for private sales for estates. Your still have the same type of cars, but without the premium of dealers.
Just had a look on gumtree and lots of estate options, close to Liverpool. Volvo v50, Volvo v70, BMW E46 etc

And with trade you like to believe you get some form of comeback. Not that it is worth much in reality of course...
I think the advantage of private is you can probably haggle them down a bit more than a dealer. And dealing with the arse end of the motor trade is never much fun. Plenty of absolute sts at this level (cars and dealers..)

I do think your more chance of getting a good deal with a private seller then with a trader at that level.
I will just keep looking. The Omega I found on Gumtree was interested. However the seller was rather odd. They said that someone wanted to view the car on the 20th July and that he had given them first refusal. He then said hat the supposed buyer was paying the 100£ for the plate transfer and whatever fuel so he reckons it’s worth £2250+
