Lunch, 2-3 fuel and coffee breaks etc. And the twisties are properly twisty.

If you've ever looked at your average speeds over a long stint you'll know that just because you're doing 60 mph on the straights doesn't mean you'll average anywhere close to 60 mph.
Ah, you suggested 8 hours driving. Drop a couple of hours from that and yes certainly getting a shift on.
If it's 6 hours, it's still only 40. UK B road diesel estate car speed.

Not suggesting the OP is a slow driver, more that he's talking about slow roads?
So the smaller lighter car might be my choice.
But I read between the lines it's a 'cruise in company' so what the other cars in the group are might be a consideration?

People go touring on bikes and all sorts, a VX220 or similar is a limo in comparison.
Yup. Other people have differing opinions.
Well a VX220 or similar is a limo when compared to a motorbike, but some may not want to tour with them.
Yes and no. I jumped off an RGV250 I was using as a daily into a 111S and to be honest it was more noisy (than riding with ear plugs), rode worse, brakes didn't work in comparison and was less practical around London. VX or other Loti are wonderful though.
I was thinking more along the lines that you have a boot for luggage, doors, roof and a heater to keep you dry and no need to wear special clothing, but I can see why it wouldn't all be better than a bike.

Do it properly and get a Westfield/Caterham if the VX is a consideration?

You mentioned the S2000 wasn't powerful enough but I don't reckon my Boxster S would have been much quicker, if at all.
Thanks, I haven't driven one, but assume a 987.2S is a fair bit quicker than a 986S (310 hp vs 247 hp).

Always wanted one. But I honestly don't think a Seven type car is made for day-long stints of hard driving in this environment. Short bursts, sure. The small tank is a limitation. And I suspect it would be more tiring than fun as the day wore on. The amount of energy and concentration you need to maintain for this kind of driving is significant enough in a 'normal' car let alone a Caterfield.

The following might help to explain. A typical day on the road.

Or watch Catchpole's latest Carfection video where he drives a GT4RS on Spanish roads that are representative of this use case.

Mine was the 260 bhp later version, but point taken smile That said, because the tall gearing on the Porsche's they don't really get into their stride until you're into ban territory, it was probably its biggest downside for me, though you may not care. Otherwise though they are good cars and feel special. Mine had a superb ride for longer drives.
