The trade value of my 2016 320d M Sport seems to have plummeted recently - down £1500 since October! Would anyone know why?

Because it’s been over valued previously due to “the chip shortage”

Because all cars are ridiculously over priced and the market is hopefully correcting itself.

If it doesn’t correct itself they probably don’t want it as they struggling to sell.

With any luck, what you’re trading it in against should have fallen too (unless new).

Because demand is currently low.

Could be the post covid price bubble is deflating due to cost of living squeeze. Or could just be normal Dec / Jan slow months when people are counting the cost of Christmas.

It’ll all be pretty clear by mid-2023.

Diesels falling quite spectacularly out of favour won't be helping I'm sure. ~30p/ litre more than petrol at the pump is quite a hit on the traditional fuel consumption benefits over a petrol.

Depreciation due to an ever increasing lack of desirability.

In - petrol engined small cars. Electric/Hybrid cars

Out - Diesels.

There will be a buyer who wants one but with a huge supply of them used, and a decreased demand, then its only going one way really I'm afraid to say.

That’s not true though is it ..
wbac, my diesel has increased by 2k over the last couple of months
50% better mpg at least compared to petrol do still cheap to run

Op, how does the wbac valuation compare to BM?

All valuations quite similar - within a few hundred pounds. Motorway perhaps a bit more generous, pre photos….

When I went to my local BMW dealer in September for an annual service o my M240i I looked round the forecourt and they semed to have nothing but 320d's and 520d's in stock, in addition to a number of SUV's but I didn't look at what they were. They were keen on me selling my M240i to them but there was nothig they had to interest me

Probably basic supply and demand at play

Which bit isn't true? New registrations of Diesels are way down - trends will apply across new and used. If people have decided that Diesel is less attractive than it once was, then they'll be less keen to buy and therefore value lower. ULEZ etc will be putting a squeeze on Diesels too - even if a Diesel is compliant today, you can guess which way things will be going without a huge crystal ball. The price differential at the pump has increased which reduces the running cost benefits. All perfectly true and all of which make a Diesel less attractive than it used to be.

That is probably part of it. I've always struggled to sell F Generation manual 3 series, Auto ones fly out no problem.

Well it’s a nice car which I enjoy driving, and there have been no issues with it thus far, so not changing it will not be an issue.

£1,500 drop in 3 months from historic peak values into Xmas period, is nothing new.
