Selling a car on motorway.co.uk
Discussion
Sold a car on Motorway two weeks ago. It hit the reserve price and sold at that. Dealer came (flew) out and viewed the car. Brought his own drying cloth, paint depth gauge, etc and cleaned the car (it had rained overnight) and then went round it with a fine tooth comb. Didn't find anything because I had listed it accurately, but even still, it was very thorough.
Paid the agreed price and took it away.
My advice is to make sure it's accurately described. Other than that it was pretty straight forward.

I sold a 2011 Mondeo via Motorway. Reserve price was £3800, final bid was £6450! WBAC and others were all under £4000.
I thought £4000 was a fair price - I'd had the car 20 months and paid little more than that for it.
The inspection was very thorough and they said the steering rack or PAS pump had a fault as it was noisy and not centering correctly and the high pressure fuel pump was very noisy. The fuel pumps are always noisy on the 2.0 Ecoboost and I don't believe there was anything wrong with it. The PAS had sounded a bit odd at full lock all the time I'd had the car and hadn't got any worse, I'd noticed no issue with the centering.
The reduced their offer to £5250 which I accepted. I never really thought I'd get £6450, I was still well up on what I thought the car was worth at the outset. Decent outcome overall, but still a fairly traditional motor trade way of working and not quite how motorway spin the process.

As you seem to be a dealer who uses these sites, just out of curiosity what do they charge dealers to use the site and what do they offer in return? Is it a fixed fee per purchase through them or discount 'packages' for buying x amount per x period etc?
There was another one of these type of selling-to-dealer-with-best-bid sites a few years ago which suddently disappeared but I can't remember the name of it. Anyone remember what it was and why they disappeared?
We tend to buy cars over £20k so at least £400 plus VAT in fees but they level out on more expensive cars as I recall £700 plus VAT for a £60k Range Rover. The other site might have been Wizzle which was bought out and now used by Carwow as their platform.

Regarding the fees, are they percentage based then rather than fixed? What do these platforms offer to you to get you to use them and not a competitor, or do you use them all ?
my experince with Motorway.
App OK for listing and taking the required pictures and views etc.
Once all the info is in the listing or "profile" as motorway call it, you need to phone to get the vehicle listed for sale.
The call is a bit of a faff, with the call quality poor (overseas call center????) having to go over things a fewtimes for clarity, particulary the reserve price Motorway set, as it was way below what I would accept, I asked for this to be changed but told no.
Car listed and sold for slightly more than the Motorway reserve, but way below what I would accept as an absolute bottom line, and less than I have already been offered elsewhere.
Cue loads of emails and texts to complete the sale by uploading V5c, driving license, bank details.
Spoke to them this morning to cancel the sale. Apologies to the buying dealer if he is on here.
I'll most likely keep the car now.
In short - a bit of a waste of time allround for me and the bidding dealer.

Mum sold her Rav4 on Carwow in the end, it went for 7600 but knocked down to 7300 on the day as the rear discs were a bit ropey (was in description and photos) and the gearbox hadn't been serviced, I wasn't there on the day but the car wasn't 10 years old yet and hadn't done anywhere near 100k so I would of argued the gearbox service bit but oh well.

Leave bad feedbackIt's the only way Carwow will get rid of the dealers that do this.
Your discs were on the description, yet they still knocked you down?
