My bomb proof 2011 VW Golf 1.6 Bluemotion has been rear ended (just as she ticked over 200k) last night and it's obviously going to be a write off.

With a 70 mile a day commute and space needed for carrying car seats/prams/young children etc on the weekend, which car best fits the bill? Not a brand snob by any stretch of the imagination so I'm open to all ideas. Saloon/estate car preferable as we've just bought our first family home and safe to say, I'll be making many runs to the local tip.
Initially thought it would have to be diesel but with petrol costing 20p+ less per litre compared to diesel i am open to all ideas.

Would ideally like an automatic, DAB radio and cruise control if possible.

Thank you all in advance!

If you're happy to add Android auto/CarPlay then there are some good options.

Insignia SRI Nav the facelift model is the one to go for & they're worth seeking out:

The Mondeo would be my normal pick but the Insignia makes more sense for your budget.
