I too prefer chrome and silver wheels, would have gone for it if I could have.

That car isn't a Shadow Edition.

Yeah if you like the chrome grilles then that's a win.

I think it's an optical illusion re thinking there is damage, but easily rectified by them if there is in real life.

Sorry that was my terrible typing on my phone, that was supposed to say that’s the reason why I like the early examples rather than the shadow editions

Same here, I thought all cars were shadow editions from 67 plate, so was pleased to see my non shadow edition with all the options BUT without GPF.

I took mine out last night for a blast - wow, what a smile that put on my face. I am now thinking keep it, keep it..

The other part of my brain says sell and buy something around 10-15k that is older and something from my youth (182 trophy / R32 etc) as well as put some money back in the bank.

No GPF would be a big plus.

Having recently had a mk4 R32, they are starting to show their age in terms of needing maintenance and bodywork. Although mine looked mint if you were to see it in pictures there were a couple of places where it was starting to let go a little in terms of small areas of rust. None of them in easy to fix areas either. I'd imagine the mk5 is coming to that age now too.

But, still a lovely car to have owned.

Mk5 would probably make a more usable daily driver.

Personally though, i'd concur with your thinking - stick with what you have. The M140i is so easy to jump in to and is a great all rounder.

Mk5 R32 was boring imo. I had a manual one.

Different strokes for different folks, but I’d say a big step down from an M140i, and in time the mk5 R32s will be less well remembered than the M140i.

I had an Edition 30 and still miss it to this day, regardless of less power vs M140i.

Admittedly it was mapped and wasnt shy, but I felt it had enough power when mapped.

My thought process with a Mk5 R32 was big engine, sounds nice etc. but I suppose the same could be said for many cars of that era.

I would concur with that. Showing their age now too.

Great for the engine note, but engine aside a bit boring.

I bought mine off a friend and i only kept it about 6 months tops. Never really bonded with it.

Definitely RE: sounding nice and something with that big an engine (especially N/A) would have been rare even then.

In theory i should have loved my mk4 as i've a history with NA 6 cylinder cars but it never really excited me.

I did the Milltek exhaust too which get it quite a note.

I'm glad i can say i've owned one, but wouldnt want another.

Even the engine wasn’t great. Mpg poor. Low rpm response dire. Loads of driveline lash.
Even the sound which was epic outside, was muted inside.

The M140i is worth keeping over most of its peers of a similar age or a generation earlier.
The high power F series cars are a high point for BMW, if they’re generally you’re kinda thing any way.

However if you’re really into the older Clio 182 type stuff then I’d say go for it.
I think it’d be a culture shock to go back to a small old French car hehe

I do like the look of the Clio 200 generation stuff though, and didn’t they come with Recaro Sportster CS seats? Nice.

Agreed RE: MPG on the R32. I was getting 20ish.

RE: Clio 200, the Recaros were an extra. Apparently lovely to look at and "sought after" but not really practical for daily use (que someone saying they daily theirs and it has the Recaros)

I'd a 200 Cup a few years back. Felt stripped out but that was part of the appeal. I guess optimum spec would be a FF one with Cup Pack and the Recaros. I think some of the limited editions had all of that - the Silverstone GP edition, for example.

I'd a 197 FF before it, and a 172 Cup before that. All inside 2 years. The 172 Cup was the rawest but fragile.

Looks good and a great selection of options. Can’t comment on whether the price is realistic though (I paid ~28k new for mine in 2017 with a similar spend on options).

I'm totally lost on pricing in this new world, what would you think this is worth?

I get the impression, reading posts on owner's groups, that a lot of these will be coming onto the market over the next few months. Insurance costs are going crazy, even owners with good driving histories saying their renewals have doubled, and 25 year olds getting quotes of multiple thousands.

Proper M cars are now cheaper to insure for sensible drivers. Too many baby Ms falling into the wrong hands and getting crashed.

£22.8k seems a lot for a private sale, getting on for approved used price for a later standard car.

Surprised to hear that as my recent, rather reasonable, insurance renewal was down on last year. I haven't been 25 for a couple of decades though biggrin

This one is still under approved used warranty which is transferable to the new owner

My own view is ~10% less £19.5-20k

Agree on the forced sales - our LCI M135i insurance went from £350 a few years ago to ~£800 this year - we're mid 30's, 10 years NCB, no points or fault claims etc so hate to think what it is for younger people

Car prices really are a finger in the air thing now its ridiculous.

I bought my fairly well spec'd 17 plate 140, with 28k miles from a BMW main dealer just over a year ago for £22k.

So i would say thats very strong money for a private sale, probably 10% higher than I would expect it to be?
