I bought a 68 plate 140i shadow edition about two months ago. Mine is estoril/black with adaptive, HK, pro nav, folding mirrors, rear camera etc, lumbar - pretty much every option except sunroof.
The rear cam is pretty useless - too low and gets dirty very easily - but I wouldn’t have any lesser spec. Pro nav really lifts the cabin.

I would concur RE: the rear camera. Its pretty much a distraction and is pretty much always dirty. Its not concealed like on some BMWs where they pop out when in use, so its exposed to the elements. The rear cam is pretty useless - too low and gets dirty very easily - but I wouldn’t have any lesser spec. Definitely to Pro Nav and HK. The basic sound system is a bit naff. We didnt have folding mirrors on ours. I dont think we'd have got any use out of them anyway, but it depends on the individuals needs.
We didnt have adaptive on ours. The suspension was firm in standard form.
You can update the screen pretty easily, buy a large screen off eBay like this one

Then code it to get the maps on full screen and bobs your uncle.
Did it on the mrs 3 series, took about 20 mins all in.
Alternatively buy a Chinese android, eg Xtrons if you want android auto and car play.

To elaborate, the standard system is pretty poor by all acounts, and i've seen quite a few people on forum groups with standard systems asking about upgrading - which then turns out to be v expensive.
I dont think the HK system is mind blowing, but its good enough for me not to have to think about upgrading it.
I first had it in my Cooper S, which i added it to as an option as the standard system is particularly naff in those, we then had it as part of the Shadow Edition pack with the M140i (if it hadnt been i'd have spec'd it as an option), and when i went looking for an M2 it was definitely on the "must have" list.
To me, if you plan on having the sound system on at all - whether that be the DAB radio, CD, through your phone or via USB then its definitely something to have.

Just to put my opinion of HK out there..
It's not bad, not amazing but good though.
It's not as good as the HK in the 3 series, however if you appreciate music in the slightest then it's a must.
I can't stress this enough - the base audio is embarrassingly poor.
Interesting you say it’s better in the 3 series, the 340i seems a step above in a lot of areas. For the slightly higher price a 340i might be a better option? It's not bad, not amazing but good though.

I believe the HK in the 3 series is logic 7. I also have read something about the centre speaker in the 1 series not being staged correctly or something. I'm not 100% but I have read that lots of people disconnect it in the 1 series for better stereo separation. I personally haven't.When I drove my in laws 340i it felt a little more comfortable and advanced in damping etc.

The car itself looks to have been quite low spec, but has quite a bit of M Performance extras.Eg, no HK, no rear parking sensors, small screen NAV.
Conversely, it has had a wheel upgrade, alcantara steering wheel, carbon inserts inside and the side skirt add ons.
I like the colour combo though and it seems pretty well priced.
