I'm looking for a small shed to tool around in that won't succumb to rust. It will be outside all year round, and used in all weathers.

I'm aware of the Audi A2 but just wondering if there is anything else. The more fun the better. driving

I’ve always found that Renaults rarely rust.
Clio’s are cheap to buy, cheap to tax, cheap to insure and cheap and relatively easy to service, (and reliable too).

I love it, but at £12k, it's not a shed, despite the fact that it's almost literally a shed.

Renaults don't rust, my 16 year old Megane did not have a spot of rust under it, even the underside, exhaust and brake pipes were perfect.

Another vote for Renault. Excellent rust resistance.

I think you're better off looking at individual cars than hoping for a particular brand to be the answer... By the time they reach "shed" status (whatever that may be) overall history is likely to have more impact on their condition than the badge on the bonnet. Otherwise, I'd be advising a Rover 200 - just like our MG ZR van that is now nearly twenty years old and doesn't have a spot of rust on it, despite being a light commercial. Best of luck!

Depends what it's made of. I'm aware of the (aluminium) A2 for instance, but not sure if there's anything else out there built from something out of the ordinary that won't rust away like everything else does.

I find that French cars are pretty good on resisting corrosion. You just have to put up with the 1001 other foibles from electrics to wacky component design.

Funny Renault is getting so many mentions, is that because most of the panels they use are plastic?

I actually thought the opposite, I had one of those main dealer videos of the underside of my 3-year old Megane when it went in for a service recently and thought the rear subframe had a surprising amount of surface rust for 3-years/20,000 miles.

Was it structural or surface rust though?

French cars are amazing at wearing until they look st then lasting forever.

Another vote for the Astra/Vectra. Facebook marketplace seems to have normalised with their pricing on them now so sub £1k seems to buy a tatty runner but it's not often they have a lot of rot. You might even get a ropey Insignia inside shed budget if you look hard enough.

Anything old and Japanese is risky, especially the further oop north you travel - the land of crusty subframes.

Might have helped if you had read the thread before your comment.

Volvo 850 and V70 phase 1. The rest of the car might be st but they don't generally rust.
