I have just bought a 2013 BMW 640d (will post up details in Readers Cars shortly). The maps on the sat nav is very old and I live in a new area so I could do with an updated version instead of using my phone. How do I get the latest maps on this?

Sign up to ‘BMW connected drive’

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/cp/connected-driv...

Then use your VIN and see if you can buy an update. They have to be bought after the first three years.

What nav system is it? I'm guessing it's CIC?

Assuming it's on a new-ish firmware (i.e. has the "i" symbol in the corner), you can update it via USB. You can buy them on eBay with a code, or look online for free.

Yep exactly as above, I bought a 2010 E93 with CIC, emailed some guy, sent him a PayPal for £26 10 mins later I had a download with instructions.

Overall process took about 2 hours, download, usb update etc.

Went from 2010 maps to 2023.

Can share the email Addy, he needed last 7 digits of vin to get a code

If your going to do this, you might as well use an FSC generator for free, the legality is the same.
