Not a position I ever thought I'd be in as my beloved Evo I imagined I'd have forever. But, sadly it is as good as dead - one for another thread but it's going to be parked up in a shed for a long time until I can justify dropping a huge amount of cash on it restoring it (major rust issues)

So, I'm now wondering what to do from here; having driven the Evo as my 'daily' (I don't do many miles in general, mainly driving to hockey matches at the weekend and then heading to see parents in Hampshire etc) I am very much used to a fast, fun, exciting car.

The current situation is that we have a T-Cross on order arriving in under two weeks which Mrs UTH will use as her daily as she'll be driving to work which will be in the extended ULEZ zone. She currently drives an old Diesel Mini which I guess I'll adopt as my car in the short term.
I do also have my 2015 Corvette Z06 for the summer months which is very much a sunny day sort of car.

So, what should I do now? One option is to just accept the fact I have the Mini for any driving I NEED to do, and I have the Corvette for the Summer months. But on the flip side I could have a budget of around £25k to get something to fill the Evo-shaped hole in my life.

Any thoughts/opinions welcome. I didn't expect I'd ever need to be in the market to replace the Evo, so not really had any thoughts along the lines of what I want to do from here.

A Mini daily driver and a Corvette summer car seems a decent pairing.

I'd be minded to not buy anything else and just save towards fixing the Evo.

Yeah, that is certainly an option floating around my head. It's just a depressing step down to go from the Evo to the Mini for most journeys I'll make.

My only other logic was that I could buy something around £25k that hopefully holds its value while I save the rest of the Evo money, then sell it once I've got the rest of the cash in the bank.

A more normal daily will make the Corvette feel really special when you do drive it though!

I get the logic, but given how few miles I realistically end up doing each summer in the 'Vette, I don't think the Evo hole is going to feel filled.

You could at a push buy an F series BMW M4 for 25k which I don't think would lose a significant amount of money.
A Focus RS would probably be another option.

They may not be what you are looking for but trying to think of cars that will hold their value or not drop like a stone that will still be entertaining to drive

I don't think there's much that will hold value if used daily.

Not having the Evo will give the OP more excuses to drive the Corvette.

I'm going to be controversial......

Sell the Mini. Put those funds into the "Fix the Evo" fund.

Daily the Vette.

I did very much the same, sold my Evo 8 and bought the C5, do similar driving to you ie occasional short drives in the week and at weekends sometimes and I've got no downsides. I don't think driving your Z06 more is going to make it feel any less special when you do. This was the reason I sold my Evo (wasn't as track-focused as yours of course), wanted something a bit more exciting when I was just popping to Asda rather than needing to properly lean on the Evo before it felt interesting,

If your goal is to put the Evo back on the road (and I really think you should, it's awesome) then maybe doing it this way saves you money to get the Evo sorted sooner. We all know Corvettes are incredibly reliable, and fuels is going to be the same if not better than the Evo as well.

My 2p's worth....

If I wasn't so precious about the Corvette in terms of parking it in car parks etc, then I'd be more open to the idea of using it as the daily, but sadly with all the will in the world I don't think I can bring myself to start using it in all weathers, and maybe getting the odd ding here and there.

The mini is only really worth a couple of grand at best, so realistically if I am aiming to get the Evo back to life at any point, the sensible option is probably just keep the Mini, keep putting money in the bank then turn the attention to the Evo sooner rather than later.

Although I do quite like the idea of a Focus RS or an M4 above.....!

It sounds like you don’t really need another car but could sell the Mini and replace with something like an FN2 Civic Type R or a Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT for cheap thrills and put the rest of your funds in the Eco restoration fund.

Yes, true, need isn't the word. So I guess certainly no rush to make any decision either way, maybe best enjoy the summer as much as poss in the Corvette then see how funds are looking towards the end of the year.

A Civic Type R was one of the cars in my mind though.....

Sorry to hear about your EVO but when the time comes for a restore take a look at DST Rustworx in Scarborough - I followed an EVO rebuild and his work is exceptional: unavailable panels fabricated by hand and a full underside renovation.

I am booked myself later in the year for a different car but just sharing as it is really hard to find the right type of person to carry out this type of work.

I'd keep the Mini as the daily & use that sizeable budget on getting the Evo back up to rude health, then enjoy the Mini & Corvette for what they are smile

It’s a chance to try something different, something small and light for example. Sell the mini and replace with a supercharged cooper S, or a clio 172/182, or go more radical and look at a basic elise or vx220. It’s not about the outright speed but the fun and tactility factor.

Ditch everything and buy a reasonable daily, concentrate on getting the Evo sorted.
The Evo is far more interesting than most other things you can buy.

Why not just drive the mini for a while and use the £25k you would spend on another car on the evo? It’s clearly where your heart is and any corrosion is only going to get worse if it’s left for a long period.

Are you saying there’s more than 25k’s worth of work to get the Evo back on the road ?, if there isn’t I’d be in the Mini and have the Evo booked in with your body shop of choice ASAP.

The problem with putting projects in sheds for later is that later often doesn’t come.

Sadly £25k is still a fair way off what the Evo is going to cost to get right......if it was 'just' the £25k budget I already have then it would be a no brainer.

I think I'll sit tight for the rest of this year and see what finances etc look like at the end of the year and make a decision then. I guess there's the one positive that I'm not in a rush as I do have the Mini as an option.

Just to echo others, save the cash and put it towards the Evo.

In case you aren’t aware, these guys seem to be pretty clued up on Evo underbody restorations. Another PHer, I think with an S2000, went to them and their work looked glorious.

I’m not affiliated by the way, I’ve just come across them when looking for my own car.
