My Evo 6 is as good as dead - what next?

Sadly £25k is still a fair way off what the Evo is going to cost to get right......if it was 'just' the £25k budget I already have then it would be a no brainer.
I think I'll sit tight for the rest of this year and see what finances etc look like at the end of the year and make a decision then. I guess there's the one positive that I'm not in a rush as I do have the Mini as an option.
How does a car go from beloved to needing in excess of £25k restoration due to major rust issues? Maybe it's time for the Evo to go if the costs to repair are so high. It'll be another car to be stored away before appearing on a certain thread on here.

Just to echo others, save the cash and put it towards the Evo.
In case you aren’t aware, these guys seem to be pretty clued up on Evo underbody restorations. Another PHer, I think with an S2000, went to them and their work looked glorious.
I’m not affiliated by the way, I’ve just come across them when looking for my own car.
That's exactly where it's currently sitting, so we're on the same page there In case you aren’t aware, these guys seem to be pretty clued up on Evo underbody restorations. Another PHer, I think with an S2000, went to them and their work looked glorious.

Been taking it to those guys for 10 years, so they know the car inside out and would also love to see it survive.

But driving myself mad wondering how it got to this stage etc doesn't really help me.
As time is on my side at least I can just park it up and see what happens to values of these cars over the next year or even two.

What are top condition Evos equivalent to yours worth?
The restoration cost sounds insane but how does it compare to sourcibg another car from Japan?
This one is the same RS450 version as mine: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1999-mitsubish...The restoration cost sounds insane but how does it compare to sourcibg another car from Japan?
And this one is just a 'normal' Extreme: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2000-mitsubish...
So, those are pretty much my only frames of reference really......
In terms of sourcing another one, I think I'm of the mindset that it's either save mine, or just move on from Evo ownership.

Sometimes it goes beyond financial reason. I think if you have a lot of personal sentimentality attached to the car then it could be worth it. There’s definitely a line, but that’s for you to decide where it is!
Have you any pics of your car?
Yeah couldn't agree more - if it wasn't for my attachment to the car I wouldn't be thinking about spending this much on it. The fact it's a very special edition of the Evo 6 does make it a bit easier to justify thoughHave you any pics of your car?

Ah I see, so a very very rare variant... And you already have the right specialist to do it. Makes sense now. And this one is just a 'normal' Extreme: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2000-mitsubish...

I think i'd be doing the same thing in your shoes. Except for being able to bear with a diesel. Panda 100HP?

How about put the £25k into a car thats either depreciating slowly/maybe on the rise
something like a:
Mk1 Focus RS
C63 AMG
Porsche 996/997
Lotus Elise
That way when you are ready to tackle the Evo you could sell it and add the money to the pot?
Yeah this has also been my logic. I was possibly going to buy my brother's RS4 off him with the view that it should hold value so I'd have the £25k to get back out of it. something like a:
Mk1 Focus RS
C63 AMG
Porsche 996/997
Lotus Elise

So yeah, possibly something along the lines above. C63 AMG was a car my bro looked at years ago before actually buying the RS4 funnily enough.

Don't go near a 996/997 porsche that hasn't had a Hartech engine rebuild. Otherwise you risk spending the Evo kitty on a £15k engine rebuild.
Certainly possible. Personally, I wouldn't fancy running anything like that if I was trying to save to get my P&J back to rude health. 911's, C63's etc are all capable of opening the floodgates on your bank account and seem unnecessary if you already have a Corvette on the drive. I think I'd be leaning towards fun but sensible daily and getting that Evo seen to asap. Gad-Westy said:

“The Evo of Destruction”!!! I remember Chris Harris’ article driving the white one - nearly 25 years ago now!

As some others have said, if it were me, I'd just daily the Mini (and use the Vette more too), and put that £25k toward your Evo work, that way, you can start the Evo work now in slow, perhaps the initial £25k is sufficient to get it to a state where you can still use it while you save and do the other stuff over time?
I love Evo's, never owned one, but always preferred them over the Subaru equivalents. As yours is so rare and special I'd do the above.
