Can spot them a mile off as they add to their derisory offer “Cash” and “Today”.
I always wonder about their love lives if they get to the offer so quickly….
You feel like if it was free they would want some money off anyway, maybe a full tank of petrol and for you to deliver it.
I would see if it actually works in some cases, I knocked my 350Z down from 9 grand to 7 but I drove 150 miles to see it and it was full of dings, had a nick in the hood and a few other undisclosed things, made a bid and was prepared to walk away as it was t worth the nine unless it was perfect as described. But, I turned up, chancers want it knocked down by 25 percent with no commitment at all and would probably try and get more off if they ever did turn up.
If I get them doing it in person, i just say we aren’t going to come to an agreement and bid them good day and go back inside, not wasting time stood on a the path in a stalemate staring at our shoes.
Funny you mention free but wanting more - not a car - but my gran passed away last year, when clearing out her house, we thought we'd do some good and offer larger items of furniture up for free, but ask they make a small donation to charity rather than not give anything at all - we'd strictly stated no delivery, yada yada, had one lass trying it on, saying she had no money and if we'd deliver - we had almost 70 years of memories to get through, but mother being soft, was saying we should. They lived an hour away. I tried it on, saying we'd consider delivering for cost of fuel, but oh no, we advertised for free, they expected to also have it delivered for free. I always wonder about their love lives if they get to the offer so quickly….

I hate people.

bloke is a messer - he does not actually want to buy - his usual MO will be sending a message saying 'is it still available ? '
How would you prefer someone asked this question? When I was buying cars for a banger rally the number that were already sold without updating or removing the advert was daft.
This was my go to opener and I bought eight or nine cars so hardly a messer.

Haggling in person is fine. I normally manage to come to an agreement if someone’s half serious as buyer or seller. None of the “Cash” or “Today” stuff with this encounter, though. If I get them doing it in person, i just say we aren’t going to come to an agreement and bid them good day and go back inside, not wasting time stood on a the path in a stalemate staring at our shoes.
Think he just got cold feet based upon last year’s advisories - even though he could see they were all rectified - and the number of owners jarred with him for whatever reason, so he thought he’d try lowballing just to see. Who knows, though…

Having found your advert, I think it's a hard car to value, personally - given fuel and tax costs - though this no-showing tool should've already known this. Sounds like a trader trying it on to me.
I'd maybe even stick it on eBay auction with a silly reserve so it doesn't actually sell, use the final figure as a guide to it's actual value, maybe even contact the highest bidder. An odd way to do it, I appreciate, but thats my best advice!

Full Audi history and such low mileage are very rare for this type/age of car. Number of owners and tax are high…People can balance those out in all sorts of ways…
I’m hesitant about eBay auctions. Feel like that’s scammer central, but I’ve only ever bought through eBay, so that could be unfounded. Had wondered about Car & Classics auctions. Have many PHers used C&C?

I normally refuse to talk price with anyone who hasn't seen the car.
This is a good rule. Anyone who wants to negotiate at length without having seen the car or at least done some due diligence if it's a distance purchase is a time waster.biggbn said:
Sounds like a messer. I would jist have walked away at 7 owners, not tried for a discount.
He didn’t turn up and push for a discount. I phoned him half an hour after he was supposed to be here, asking if he was coming. That’s when he raised the MOT rubbish and number of owners being a concern.Macron said:
Why on earth would you phone a no show-er back?
That grifter didn't bother to turn up, and now thinks you're desperate, so is offering fk all.
If they turned up after a conversation like that it would be with another 2k off or they'd leave. Or expect you to deliver and offer even less post messing.
Never, ever call someone like that back, they're not a serious buyer.
This all day long, oh and why would that number of previous owners for that age of car be a problem, some folk really are a PITA.That grifter didn't bother to turn up, and now thinks you're desperate, so is offering fk all.

Just ignore him. Not turning up without letting you know is bad manners.
Don't chase him, it makes you look desperate.
This. Don't chase him, it makes you look desperate.
Still not good form, though.

To be honest I wouldn't pay 7k for a 16yr old A6. I couldn't care less what the market is or perceived you can get.
No point messaging/phoning the seller though? As soad said, why go through the whole rigmarole to then flake out that way. Maybe it was just generic cold feet or something else came up that he preferred and he didn’t expect me to call him.
