Text him back, tell him he can have the 2k off, then give him an address 200 miles from where you live.
clap

We have sold 2 cars over the last 3 weeks to these people https://www.webuyyourmotortoday.co.uk/

We sent photos and told them about the cars over the phone. They made offers quite a bit above WBAC on both cars, arranged to see the cars the next day, turned up with their recovery truck, spent 5 mins looking at both cars, confirmed the offers, did an immediate on line money transfer, did the DVLA bit on line, loaded the cars up and off they went.

Completely hassle free for us, and including the cup of coffee they were there for about 20 mins for both transactions.

I know we got a bit less than we might have done in a private sale but I have never sold two cars so quickly and easily.

A tactic with traders is to have that £2k cheaper model for them. It's the lure to offer, while having the £2k dearer model parked up next to it. The punter will buy the more expensive car 8/10 times.

I get the logic of using car buying services for ease, but they’re probably not the best option for an older, big-engined car like mine, where the value’s in condition, specification and rarity, as much as age and mileage.

Am considering getting in touch with one specialist car dealer and another car dissemination platform, though, as I think it might suit them.

But this is the same thing only it is deemed to be “hassle free” because there’s no negotiation as such, no confrontation. You tap in your details, get an offer, sell, job done. Woohoo. But the offer you accept is similar to the op’s £5k offer, more than likely less. So what’s the difference?

The person that didn’t turn up wasn’t interested in your car. They couldn’t be bothered so they chucked in a cheeky offer to motivate themselves to make the trip. Had you’d accepted they’d likely have offered less in person, just like WBAC and others do at the handover.

If you car is advertised in cynic with the market you’ll get a buyer eventually. If you’re desperate to sell you’ll have to consider lower offers. Simples.

You opened you post with the difference - the lack of hassle.

Also, they're a known quantity, and they actually do have the money to buy the car.

2015 Nismo rs - google suggests £8k - £12k with most around 10-11k (mostly on traders sites fo trade retail prices).

Boy gave £10.1 k and the money was in the bank before he came round to view.

I probably could have held out for a little more but my ability to deal with throbbers has a very low threshold for telling them to fk off biggrin so motorway it is smile.

Getting an initial value from motorway takes virtually no effort at all and they were a grand more than WBAC.

just put it in WBAC again

This is true and I agree, but claiming someone is a time waster because they low ball the seller while accepting a low balled offer from a “known quantity” is one and the same to me.

The only reason some of us sell privately vs WBAC trade in is to make a bit more money.

But it's 'earned' money as you have the hassle factor of dealing with the general public to deal with!

The Motorway offer is half what I think my car is worth. Why can’t I like super popular things like Nissan Qashqais rather than 4.2-litre V8s?!

The flip side is that big-engined stuff is really good value to buy in the first place these days compared with mainstream stuff, which all seems to be bonkers prices right now.
