American vans, yes. A transit custom isn't going to have the appeal is it? laugh

I wouldn't have one as my only car, but have had a pickup of one type or another for a few years now. For my use, they're much, much better than vans and obviously do things cars can't. Main ones are actual proper winter type stuff: off-road ability, deal with floods etc. There's something nice about having something at your disposal that you know can get you where you need to go no matter what the weather does. Another biggy is towing, limits are much higher than any car. Plus, thay also having that completely versatile load area. I use mine for taking garden waste to the tip (there's absolutely no issue in taking a pickup to the tip here despite what someone else on the thread has claimed, but I know this varies by local authority and current incumbent refuse provider) and it's main use, as a mountain bike carrier. I've tried vans and they're ste in comparison.

Main downsides are the poor ride and handling and for the European or Japanese ones, the cabs are small for 5 people and the load beds are tiny too. Eg, I ran a Hilux and it was a brilliant, indestructible thing to have around. Actual load space on the doublecab really limited how useful it was though. I now have a Dodge Ram and for practicaility it's genuinely fantastic. Image problem? Yep, but I've been overwhelmed by the ehthusiasm and interest other people generally express. I expected negativity but it's been just the opposite.

I have numerous cars and it's one tool but it's a very versatile and useful one.

I have an old L200 for knocking about in and ferrying stuff/rubbish around the place. It is perfect for that job and being an old one it means I really don’t mind scuffs and scratches.

I have taken the backseats out of the double cab and use this as easy extra storage room.

It bops along easily at 60mph and is comfortable enough for what it is, but you don’t expect it to be car like as it isn’t,

As an additional car it is brilliant to have parked out of the way and to hop it in when needed.

And the truck is under that being used as a mule for tree cuttings.
