I don't think you will go wrong with either, i'm a blue oval fan and if I had to chose I think i'd go Hyundai.

I think the Focus is better equipped, but if it's auto only I would get the i30.

The i30N edges it as the better overall package but both are very good options as is the RS300 Megane.

ST handling is superb IMHO but with the state of current roads, the tyres and suspension is a pain in the arse, doesn't make it a bad car though, we love ours. They've stopped making them too.

Thanks...

Wheels/tyres are a worry with the roads tbh and i didnt realise the ST had stopped..
I can still get on the configurator and spec what i want for now.
Sorry, they end production in 2025, good if you can still get one. They are brilliant cars though, the MK4 ST goes around corners like it’s on rails and comes with all the toys. I’ve always loved Fords though so perhaps a bit biased. Try one and see what you think.

I should add, ours is the 190hp diesel which makes the same torque as the petrol but does 50mpg, mid range is where it excels. Cannot comment on the petrol.

Can't comment on the autos but I had a similar dilemma a few month ago. Doing a 40 mile commute every day but wanted a Hyundai i30n.

I went to test drive a manual MK4 Focus ST that came up for sale nearby and loved it. Nice interior, absolute riot to drive but can also be calm and comfortable for long journeys. I then went to drive a manual i30n (same day, a few hours apart) and thought it was ace to drive (I dare say it would be a better B road basher) but the interior was horrible. Felt badly put together. Also felt like it would annoy me on a long commute (noisy cabin). I ended up buying a Fury orange Focus ST and putting the Dreamscience 330bhp map on it.

My only gripe with the Focus is the exterior build quality. Door handles feel VERY cheap, spoiler rattles/vibrates when you close a door and I had an annoying squeak from the exhaust which turned out to be a heatshield scraping the top of the back box over a bump (easy fix).

I'd still recommend the Focus though.
