Back in April 2022, I ordered a Golf R Mk8 from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts on the following terms which is a bit of a bargain compared to current prices...

Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.0 TSI 320 R 4Motion DSG in Special solid - Pure white.
Monthly payment:
Initial Rental of: £1,137.42 (incl. VAT)
Admin/Processing Fee: £270.00 (incl. VAT)
Followed by 35 rentals of: £379.14 (incl. VAT)
Excess Mileage: 11.72 p / mile (incl. VAT)

When I ordered I was given a December 2022 delivery date and told the cars were 'pipeline stock' with no options so they were confident the date would be met. They informed me in October 2022 the date had now slipped to July 2023 at best. Reading various forums it seems others are waiting up to 2 years so i'd guess the July 2023 will probably slip too.

As the car has been delayed so long my circumstances have changed and now need a bigger car so will be looking to cancel as I have ordered something else.

Ideally I'd like the £270 processing fee back from Nationwide but contractually I think that is unlikely as their contract is pretty clear in terms of them not being held responsible for delays.

Just wondering if anyone has had success getting admin fees refunded and how?

One possibility would be to 'sell' my place in the queue which could be desirable based on current lead times. I wouldn’t be looking to make any money, I would just like the admin fee back but not sure how exactly this could be done and Nationwide would need to be involved of course.

I will be calling them during the week to cancel but wanted to see what people thought first and if there are any bright ideas to get my £270 back.
