As someone mentioned, Id hunt for a Honda Accord or CRV on facebook marketplace.
Petrol Autos which are Ulez compliant have shot up in price mind you.
£1000 car pre 2022 is now £2000+

But still bagains to be found.

Id even consider a Honda Legend if you want some power

I dont know why you wouldnt just keep your current car. Far less risk than buying another car on which you wil lose the dealer spread at least (£1000+).

Service it now and its easier to sell with recent service history too.
100% this.

200% that.

you have to service and MOT all cars.

You could quite conceivably spend £1500 on what seems to be a good car and within a month be another £500-1000 in having found all the hidden faults and niggles it has.

In the vast, vast majority of cases, the cheapest car is the one you already own. Just ride it out till your new one arrives.
